All Night Long, Vol. 2
S**)
Unsettling material is ruined by tons of goofy leering and "evil" cackling
*** This review may contain spoilers ***So this is not nearly as disturbing as the reviews on this site and others imply. There's a reason that movies like Deliverence, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Audition and Funny Games are far more unsettling than this one-- quality acting. The cackling bad guy is the least interesting choice a writer can make, and although certainly some real life bad guys have tittered, the villains in All Night Long 2: Atrocity often seem like people who should be fighting Speakman or Seagal in a direct to video martial arts movie. (Though plenty of those are better than this-- eg. Flesh & Bone, Last Man Standing and Martial Outlaw.)When All Night Long 2 is dry and cool--- much of its first half--- the piece is a somewhat effective and uncomfortable viewing experience. But once the nerd starts smiling at the sadism, it's obvious where this is going-- and that happens very early on. His performance is stiff at best, and terrible and silly by the end. The sort of stuff that ruined Hong Kong movies likes Untold Story and Dr. Lamb (and I saw both of those projected in 35mm on the big screen). The gore is mostly spraying blood, oftentimes with too much magenta and overall this movie is not remotely convincing--- and since it's so contained and bare bones, it really needed to feel authentic. And the sound effects are very loud-- again, making the proceedings feel false.Atrocity does not compare to other small shot on video sadism like (the serious) Guinea Pigs, nor the first August Underground, much less the wildly creative Brian Paulin movies (Fetus, Bone Sickness) and the early Ittenbach pieces.

I love Japan!
The first All Night Long movie is crazy, but this one is 10 times crazier! Just read what it's about: "In downtown Japan, a lonely computer nerd tries to maintain a peaceful existance while being stalked by a gang of deviant homosexuals who want to use him for their brutal S&M activities"! Sounds crazy, right? Well, it's even crazier than it sounds! It has torture, sadomasochism, rape, murder, etc... and like the first one, it has a very violent and brutal ending! It's not very gory (it has some gore though), but the craziness makes up for it. A skinny computer nerd might not be as harmless as he seems. I love this series! All of the movies are about the dark side of human nature, about how we all have a violent side, about how a seemingly normal person can be a psychopath and/or a sadism, about how simple things can turn a person into a murderer, etc...Recommended. Definitely not for everyone though.

The most violent film ever made. PERIOD.
This is the most disgusting film I've ever seen. It is more disgusting than Volume 3. I haven't seen Volume 1. This film incorporates the most depraved violence I've ever seen on television. What makes it so positively repugnant is that, unlike Volume 3, it isn't about grossing you out. This movie is obscene because you see the actors convincingly acting out situations such as: a woman is kicked and pissed on the ground with the tips of her fingers severed off and bleeding and being told to call herself a whore. Scenes comparable to the one above make up 3/4 of the movie. Here's the plot: a bunch of high school students torture a lonely boy to the point where we are talking about sado-masochistic homosexual and heterosexual rape; many of the characters being victimized are just caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and that makes the torture they undergo even tougher to watch. A guy is made to watch while his girl-friend is raped and degraded in front of him by several men. The scenes last for hours. 3/4 of the movie is sadism that made the most violent scenes in Pulp Fiction a joke. This movie compares to Caligula but is worse simply because at least in Caligula, you get get a nice break. This is the most disgusting film I've ever seen. This movie was released in 1981 in Japan where it was mainstream. It simply boggles the mind. This film was only recently released on DVD in the US. I can't imagine a movie of such sado-masochistic violence ever being released in theaters here.It is a more violent film to watch than anything from Hollywood or Europe. This is the most violent and disgusting film I've ever seen. That's why I give it 5 stars.

Another must see for fans of extreme horror.
A teenager is being extorted by a gang of thugs which is lead by a childhood friend of his. To complicate things, his former friend is also a sadistic homosexual who wishes to take him as his lover. His situation becomes more and more bleak until he answers an online ad offering to solve his problems. Through the ad he meets three other misfit teens who agree to help him pay his debt to the gang. Things go horribly wrong when the gang bursts in on the newfound friends and makes it clear that they will not buy their way out of trouble. In the end our lead gets his revenge, but loses his humanity in the process. This movie is very much like the first in the series, and if you enjoy violent horror with a touch of sadism, then this film is definitely for you.
