The Mini 3 uses a 3.5mm power jack (similar to a headphone jack). I know because I bought this for my Mini 3. You can buy a USB female to micro USB female adapter to attach the power cord supplied with the Mini 3 to this kit. I'm still looking for a Mini 3 hard wire kit. **Q: Is this something that I install, or will it require the car dealership?** A: I don't think it should require professional installation. There are several good YouTube videos. It plugs in at the camera and at the cigarette lighter/USB. The only real issue is getting the wire tucked into the headliner. That may be difficult, depending on your car, but usually isn't. **Q: Does this kit consume power when camera is not in use? (not connected)** A: Kit does not consume camera if not in use. And definitely does not consume power if camera is not connected. You really only need the hard wire kit if you plan to use the parking mode in the camera. In this case, yes, the kit consumes energy to keep camera in ready mode.
