Does the Job
I ordered this butter bell from Amazon. It performs just as expected. I make fresh, homemade butter and put it in this butter bell. As long as you change the water every couple of days as described in the instructions, the butter stays fresh. I can't attest to the butter staying fresh for 30 days because I use up the amount in the bell in a week or 10 days, but it stays soft and spreadable. I've read in some of the reviews that folks have problems with the butter sliding out of the bell. I only had that happen once and it was because I didn't have the butter packed into the bell well enough. If there are void spaces behind the butter, chunks of butter will get suctioned out when you lift the bell out of the water base. Press the butter into the bell so there are no air spaces before putting the bell into the water base.

Why didn't I buy this sooner?
Why did it take me 39 years to discover the butter crock? Growing up, my great aunt kept her butter on the counter, but I thought it was because she A. lived on a dairy farm and B. ate so much butter that she'd go through what was left out in a day or so. I always thought butter had to be refrigerated and struggled through spreading hard butter on, well, everything, forever. I bought this butter crock recently and I am just THRILLED with it. It was inexpensive, it is a very simple and unobtrusive design sitting on the counter top, it's super easy to load up with a stick of butter, and it works great. When it's nearing empty, I just leave a wrapped stick on the counter overnight and refill it the next morning. I don't have any trouble with it going bad or getting moldy, but I keep my house at 70-72 degrees and use salted butter (with about a half inch of water in the crock), so the temp + salt probably help.

Works great if it isn't to hot
It works wonderfully as long as it isn't to hot. It's been over 100° here for almost a month and multiple times I have lifted the bell to find all of my butter floating in the water. But on days when it's not as hot the butter stays wonderfully soft and in the bell.

The unsung hero of the kitchen
I love the butter bell so much that I always give it as a house-warming or as part of a wedding gift.Using centuries-old technology the ceramic keeps the butter at an ideal temperature even during the summer. The shape creates a vacuum seal so nothing can get in to spoil the butter.Just put a quarter pound cube of softened butter into the bell, fill 2/3 of the bowl with cool water and insert the bell into the bowl and your butter will stay fresh and spreadable for a week or more. If you haven't finished off the butter in 4-5 days but frequently open the bell to get butter, you'll want to change the water. You'll want to clean it after each cube of butter, so I have two, one in use while the other gets cleaned.Worth every penny.

Glue gave way
The dish itself is pretty, simple and looks nice on our counters. It is easy to clean. Unfortunately, I can’t give it a higher rating because after a few months, the glue that holds the top to the bell stopped holding and it came apart. I was able to repair but was disappointed in the short lifespan of the glue.

Nice size
I love butter bells, that’s what I call them, and this one is a good buy. It holds 1 stick of butter. Is small enough to not take up a lot of room on my counter and keeps the butter soft. Make sure to change the water every few days.

Essential
I love these butter dishes. I will never go back to the flat glass ones I used to use. I must say, they are easy to clean, but they can be super slippery when they have a thin layer of butter on them. So wash carefully! I have had butter mold in one once, but I hadn't changed the water for a long time as instructed. As long as I change the water regularly, and wash between refilling an empty dish, the butter has stayed in perfect condition.
