Batman (2016-) Vol. 2: The Joker War

Not so much let down as bored.
Another Joker story where Joker hardly feels like Joker and more just some anarchy themed clown. This time Joker has a side kick named Punchline (who takes a lot of the center stage through the story) and a gimmick where he can make zombies. The artwork is good, and the story isn't offensively bad, just forgettable, which in some ways is worse. Joker has none of his loony comedian personality, but instead spends all of his dialogue giving cheap philosophy lessons on the nature of Gotham and mankind being inherently bad. He doesn't at all feel like the character from BTAS, or the Arkham video games because his personality isn't sadistic one minute, jovial the next, but more just a creepy cynic that dresses like a clown. The character hasn't been the same since Grant Morrison's run, but Morrison at least had an idea of what he wanted to do with the character. He's felt aimless for years and this story hammers in the point that any story with the Joker is just going to be a repetitive exercise going through the motions.3 Jokers, while not without its issues, was better. Artwork was better, and overall I liked the story more too. I've been tapering off of DC since Bendis was hired on, and I think that I'm going to use this as my jumping off point because I've got no interest in Tynion's upcoming Ghost Maker arc. IMO all of Tynion's other original characters he's introduced since starting this title (Punchline, the Designer and ugghhhh....Clownhunter?) have been major flops, so not really eager to see where he's going with that. It's a shame since his Detective Comics was good, but two arcs in and this series is bad. Not sticking around to find out what's left.

Time to say goodbye
After reading Batman booksFor 4 decades its time.Time to get off...after seeingBatman reunited with Catwoman I should have quit this Book..I should have kept that image of the end of the King run..in my mind. But no I had to go Back to see the Joker wars.Writers have been Blowing up Gotham since No Mans land...Its too repetitiveWhere is the Cloak and dagger plots Like the Snyder run.?The Joker killing thousandsYet Batman wont kill himTo save thousand others. And where was the rest of the héroes ???. Its not our fault to expect Superman or Flash or Green lantern to step in. Are they notAlways every where? There was a time a writer would take the time to explain this..not anymoreI know comics.. are fantasyMade to entertain..but howAre you entertained..with such senseless slaughter? And then the ending more killing.Just to let you know that thisWill continue on forever.Well it can continue without me.

Another WINNER!!
Beautiful art, a well paced and clearly readable script ; it felt very movie like. This creative team easily hits the standard of the great creative “ bat-teams” of the past. An absolute joy and honor to add to my bookshelf at home!

Great condition. Came on time well packaged to protect the book. Love the book good quality hardcover. I really like the art style in this ansd I know there are mixed reviews on her but I'm loving punchline. So all in all I would have like to get the joker war saga print but all reviews said big problems with the printing so I settled for this one. I dont regret it for the good quality and great work.

Disturbing
Bruce Wayne and the Joker have been at each other’s throat a long while. The Joker and his new girlfriend the puzzler are after Harley Quinn and The other members of his family.

Realistic Science Fiction
Rings familiar with all the area primiscule violence of all the neighborhoods that I live and have lived in.

Love it and can’t wait to see more.
Well, Tynion has hit another home run again with this book.I’ll be delving into some spoilers, so if you haven’t read this comic and want to avoid them then please read no further...So, this follows on from Their Dark Designs which bridges to this story.I feel like this story should have been a finale to Tynions eventual final run on Batman. It just has that feel, just like so many writers before him. I’m in no way complaining, because I feel there’s more story arch’s to come with more complications and heartache. So, Joker has stolen the Wayne Fortune and is running wild, so it’s the usual Joker tale... But now the Joker is using Batman’s secret identity against him to torture him further, which I’m still so-so about but Tynion makes it work so well. The book revolves around Bruce coming to terms with Alfreds untimely death (Another mistake I’m no fan of either) but again, it’s well written. To make the story short, Bruce loses money by accident by Catwoman/Selina Kyle( and in the finale she seems to have kept the money, but that’s speculation from me) and the bad guys of Gotham hide as The Joker unleashes a Purged hell on Gotham.Oracle makes a triumphant return as well! The story is fast paced, very fast and I just felt it ran through so quickly, but maybe that’s just me.I really appreciate the whole dream sequence of Batman dreaming of Alfred. We also get to see more of Jokers new companion, Punchline.Punchline seems devious, fairly likeable and she looks like the usual female bad girl (Big chest, small waist) because Harley Quinn is now mainstream and a hit with kids, she can’t surely be killing people anymore!?Is Punchline a hit for me? She’s ok, she seems clever and I hope we get to see more of her.I’m still irritated by Harley Quinn’s mainstream changes into more of a heroine rather than an anti-hero/villain.We also get introduced to Clownhunter. Clownhunter seems to be a school kid that hands out justice by killing Jokers henchmen and hoping to kill Joker himself for revenge of his parents. I’d say Clownhunter is one of the most exciting anti-heroes I’ve seen in a long time. We finally needed some hard heroes that will kill and that don’t follow Batman’s rules. This comic finally starts asking questions Batman needed to face for a while. Like his insistence that The Joker stays alive. His coping mechanisms, the fact the use of his friends and family play a big role in his life.I think Tynion is trying to steer Batman into a fresh direction, making him face reality of his actions and I can’t wait for the next instalment.Although for now the Three Jokers by Geoff Johns is sort of out of continuity, it does play very well as a companion book to this story (Though I’m not a huge fan of The Three Jokers)I have to praise the art and direction of Jorge Jimenez for the rustic and gritty art, it really plays well with the scenarios. Is it recommended? Whole heartedly yes.But if you’re after the full, FULL story then you should go way, way back to Batman, The Man Who Laughs because of the first Joker references and if you want to avoid Batman’s earlier continuity then go from Batman Rebirth because this all continues on.The book is nice enough, the paper is the same DC standard recycled feel which I hate. But you get some lovely variants in the back and the epilogue, all round, it’s a fantastic buy.So why four stars? Well, because as much as I love Joker and Batman, the status quo is never going to change. Joker was shot in the eye and he’ll heal himself by magic or some other fantastical way. When will things really change? I’m sad to see Alfred dead, but it has shaken things up.Tynion is working brilliantly with the brilliant writing skills he has, but it’s going to be hard to keep Batman staying fresh. Also look out for the Joker War companions to get more of the story.

Stop me if you can
Every bit as dark and violent as I was expecting. The Joker has torn up the old script of his war on Batman. Now he is taking his war to Bruce Wayne, with his own money and and assets. With Gotham City cought in the cross fire.Apart from being a huge story and the other thing I did like about thus is the it did give Batman a chance a bit of closure on something I think should have had a lit more time devoted to it in the city of Bane and its aftermath. The artwork is awesome and the story is epic. The Joke has made his move, but will be up for the counter? A great finale, that leads into the next chapter, nobody and nothing will be the same by the end of this book. Every issue/chapter starts with the issue cover in a full page format. The cover gallery contains the varient covers and some character designs.
