Waaay to small for the rated size
Let's start by saying I love McDAVID braces. I have been wearing a 421 (no knee cross straps) for years in XXL rated for the same size knee as this 425. My knee is 18.5": dia and my calf is 20" and I have never had problems with the 421. I just decided to check out the 425 for extra support. Got the XXL and the package and product tags matched. I could not even get it halfway up my calf. Had to have help pulling it off. What a disappointment. Back to the 421...

Fits fine, I'm already more confident
I used the sizing chart on the McDavid product page and the fit is fine, although based on my measurements I'm right in the middle of the XL range. Being in the middle of the range probably helps. I can already feel the extra support. I'm recovering from an injury and as I am beginning to walk again my knee has been weak/unstable and I am really just limping along. After putting on the brace, my gait has almost returned to normal. It also seems flexible enough that I can use it on my mountain bike, which is good, because I am itching to get back on the trails ASAP. Rock on!

Great reviews online, yet disappointed by product
This knee brace was my hope of getting some comfort, at least after reading all the great reviews. The chart size is clearly a big problem, some say it runs small others say it runs too big. I measured my knee straight and bent and both measurements fell within the 17"-20" so I thought to get the XL which is supposed to be actual size based on the chart. I can barely get through 10mins of a workout before the knee brace moves itself to my ankle. I have played around with different ways of strapping it tightly, but once I start to sweat (which is inevitable) the knee brace begins to move down. I wasted $35 of my money. I must say the product looks very sturdy, better than what you would get in most stores but there is clearly something wrong with this products size

Excellent knee support
I have had one of these supports for about a year now and I think it's great. I have arthritis and was about to do a sponsored walk when my knee decided to play up, it wouldn't support my weight. I could walk perfectly normally with the brace on and had no pain.I recently bought another one from this Amazon seller and found that they sent me an older design one, which wasn't as comfortable. The one I already have was 2008 on the packaging but the one I got from here was 1998. The design has obviously changed and I agree with the comments from the other reviewer about it not being comfortable. I am however returning it to get another one from the seller I got the first one from.Although the 2008 design does still wrinkle around the knee a bit it's a lot better than the 1998 design. Something to watch out for.

Thicker legs might have some issues.
I've had knee problems for the past few years, so I own my fair share of knee braces. However, I recently twisted one of my knees badly and began looking for a brace with more support for my ligaments. Because of my knee issues I've gained some weight so I opted to purchase both the XL and XXL sizes and return the one that didn't fit as well. Neither ended up fitting very well.Pros:-Compression: helped with swelling issues-When I secured the criss-cross straps my ligaments did feel extra relief, compared to a brace without straps like theseCons:-XXL was too big: Fit around my thigh/calf (perhaps a little big, but manageable), too loose around my knee-XL was too small: Tight around thigh/calf, even a little right around the knee-Both sizes: neither size allowed my kneecap to stay within the circle, when the criss-cross straps were secured it pulled the fabric forward leaving no support around my kneecap-Uncomfortable to walk/stand in because of reason aboveI really wanted to keep this brace. It was comfortable when I was laying down (because of the compression). However trying to walk around/stand for more that a few minutes was uncomfortable due to the brace pooching out around my kneecap.I'd recommend at least trying this out, because you can always send it back if it doesn't work out. To me, the general functions of this brace seemed to be there: compression, support, added ligament support. The only reason I returned this item was because the fit seemed to take away some of the support I was looking for. I suspect smaller sizes would have an easier time fitting comfortably.
