Orbit 2-Station Hose Watering Timer with 1 Manual Bypass Outlet - 56233

I've had one of these for many years and the LCD display finally failed. I bought a "new" one and the design is exactly the same - simple but functional. Handy to have both 2 timed valves plus one manual bypass for your hose.

First of all, I will note that there were no surprises with this timer. The product image and description were accurate, and everything worked as it should. The timer has 2 outlets that can be programmed separately to water anywhere from 4 times a day to once a week with many options in between. The third outlet is a manual outlet that you can switch on on demand. To program the timer, you simply 1. Set the clock 2. Set the initial start time for either or both outlets 3. Set the duration for either or both outlets 4. Set the frequency for either or both outlets 5. Turn the dial to auto The buttons are fairly intuitive and shouldn't be too difficult to use. If it is raining, or will rain that day, you can push the '+' button once or more to delay the timers for a certain amount of time. I think the minimum delay was 24 hours, but my memory may be fuzzy there. The unit is fairly heavy, so you may need to bolt the included support to the wall and use it to prop the timer up so that it is not pulling down on your spigot. Mine was angled down already, so I chose not to use the support (it looks like it may be a bit of a hassle to set up). I didn't have any water leakage issues when it rained (batteries and electronics we fine) and there were no leak issues with any of the connections; they seem very well designed and are quality-built. One thing that may seem obvious but I did not consider fully is that if you split one of the timed nozzles into two hoses, your water pressure will suffer. By the same token, if you have both timed nozzles come on at the same time, your water pressure will suffer. I have yet to determine if the limitation is the throughput of the timer, or the actual spigot. I definitely recommend this, but just be sure you know what you're getting and what you're not.

First off, as others have mentioned, the 1st outlet on the left is a manual outlet, not on a timer. So really this should be called 2-outlet with 1 manual bypass outlet. So far it seems well made, but with one undocumented "flaw". As described, there are two "stations" that can be independently programmed. The flaw is that they aren't completely independent of each other. One station needs to be completely finished with its schedule before the other will turn on! For example, if you set station 1 to start at 5:30am and run for 90 minutes, and station 2 to start at 6:30am, what will really happen is that station 2 won't start until 7am because station 1 is still running for 30 minutes past the start time of station 2. This is not mentioned ANYWHERE in the single sheet of instructions except for a single sentence in the troubleshooting guide under "water won't turn off" - it reads: "Start times begin after previous watering cycle has run through all stations and set durations." Which is a fancy way of saying that this timer will completely disregard your second timer setting until the first one is complete. This feature, and the lack of documentation about it, made me think this unit was broken. If you were to set one station to water for a long time (say if you had a station that was watering your trees for 3 hours) and wanted the second to come on 1/2 hour into that 3 hours, it would be delayed by 2.5 hours! That doesn't seem right to me. One other gripe I have is that if you enter into programming mode (even just rotating the dial without changing settings) while a station is watering, it will stop all watering and not come back on once you rotate back to Auto. Pros: Well-made, manual lever works well, controls work well Cons: Undocumented functionality of timer means the two stations can NOT be watering at the same time. Bonus tip: (from instructions) - to water without interrupting the set cycle, press [MANUAL] button and then use + and - buttons to set from 1-240 minutes. In hindsight, I would have preferred to purchase the expandable version of this, by the same company - it was hard to figure out until I looked closely at the garden store, that the expandable one has little valves that plug into the main unit - expandable up to 4 valves. Each expander valve costs $15-20, far less than a single valve timer by itself, and trust me... as soon as you start running your drip lines, you'll see how fast you'll want at least 3-4 "stations" - and this unit only has TWO, regardless of the fact that it appears to have 3.

This is honestly the best timer I’ve purchased! I just have a simple watering system and this timer is perfect for 2 zones. It is as simple as it gets to set up and the added quick hose off/on valve makes this timer a total winner. The first one I bought I think it lasted for over five years through all seasons uncovered. It still works, but was acting funny when I first turned it on this year, so purchased a new one just in case it quits since it’s for my garden. I hope they keep this one on the market! Been very happy, I can rely on it when leaving on vacay and not stress about having to have someone water my garden. If there were one thing I could change or upgrade it would be being able to program a specific time for the second watering in a day instead of every 12hrs. But, thats just a personal note. No cons about this timer and I’ve had several.

The timer itself is easy enough to setup and use. However the collar to attach it to the faucet is cheap plastic and easily cracks rendering the outlet useless. The device functioned well enough until the first time it was gently bumped by my hip. It no longer would seal and would spray water out of the faucet collar making the system inoperable. Do not buy.

I"ve purchased 3 of these so far and they work great. I really like the bypass feature that it has so you can connect a hose that you want have ready water access to without having to wait for the timer to kick on the water.

If you don’t have underground sprinklers this is the way to go. I have 3 of these and this was the 4th one I bought. They are a little pricey but 2of the original 3 I bought 10 years ago and they are still working. You can run drip lines off of these with the right equipment that you can get at Home Depot or Lowe’s. The programming is easy and pretty self explanatory once you get used to the dial system. Only complaint I have is that male end that attaches to the spigot is plastic and if you aren’t careful you can cross thread it pretty easy.

Pluses (+) & Minuses (-) listed in order of importance: - MISLEADING: Would be a 5 star review if there were three timed outlets... The first outlet on the left doesn't work on a timer, so you can only use this timer to rig up two watering zones. (Yes, I should have read more carefully, but I still think it is misleading.) + Works as advertised + Easy to use/self explanatory: I didn't even need an instruction manual. + Connections do not leak in the slightest: I was worried there would be a constant drip at the spigot, but even with a constant full load of water pressure there hasn't been so much as a single drop that has shown up at any of the connections (and I'll admit some of the hose connections that I used were pretty old hoses) - May only be able to put one sprinkler per timed zone. This depends on your homes water pressure, but should be mentioned. - Brace Bar (To support the weight of the timer at a 45 degree angle coming out of the spigot): Requires you to drill holes into the wall of your home. If you plan on this being a permanent solution, no worries. However, the timer is plastic. It's going to fail sometime. And you'll have to replace it and (probably) drill another hole to support it. (Plus, you'll want to remove it during the winter, which is a pain to get to the screws behind the timer.) - Easy to steal: There is no way to lock this in place (and the brace bar isn't a huge deterrent, so the threat exists that someone could steal your investment unless you figure a way to protect this from theft on your own. What I used this for... Just moved into a home with a decent sized lawn with no sprinkler system and didn't have the money to pay for an expensive sprinkler installation. I definitely needed to cover two zones in my back yard that were getting scorched by the sun, and was hoping to cover a third (see misleading comments above). All told, I spent a total of about $115 for the timer, 100 yards of hose on sale at W-Mart, male/female fasteners, two "Y" splitters, and four sprinklers. I have a long and narrow back yard, so I needed to splice the hose off to two sprinklers (the max that would work with the water pressure my home has). I figured out where the sprinklers should be placed. Then I laid out a length of hose about 6 feet shy of where the first one (of two sprinklers) in a zone was going to be. I cut the hose at that point, attached a female end to it, attached a "Y" to it, attached a male end to the hose, ran the length to the sprinkler and attached a male end and female end to that length. Then I repeated that step to the second sprinkler. The result? My whole back yard gets water and is starting to show signs of relief after having been scorched by the sun.

After doing some research I chose this digital watering timer from Orbit. Turns out I did good. I chose the 3 valve version to make it futureproof. I needed a watering timer to save my veggies in summer while I was away on summer trips. This timer has a solid build and is very straightforward and easy to use. The functions are clearly labelled and easy to control. The display is very big and clear and tell you exactly what is configured. Mounting was easy as it came with a steel rod to attach to the wall to secure the timer. I am using the timer in combination with the Andrews 50-Foot 2 Tube Sprinkler Hose 10-12348 and it is working well. I have set the timer to turn on at 7 AM every day for 7 minutes every 12 hours. Although this is a 3 valve timer, only 2 valves work with the timer and the third is a bypass valve. I have been using this timer for 2 months and it is working so well I seem to have forgotten about it. The timer is big and I have covered it with a cloth to avoid any attention from curious passerby. This timer gets the job done.

This is a fantastic outlet and very easy to set up and use. It features nice big writing so it is simple to see from a short distance away. I love that I can have a separate hose to use manually without disrupting the timers on my watering system.
