a very good alternative to the Tombow 2b as a writing pencil
I have bought the TOMBOW 8900 Drawing Pencils, 2B Point Strength, Set of 12 Pencils (51532) before + have written a Review on them. They are very nice pencils - preferable to the Staedtler we had been using for years - + about1/2 the price. However the Amazon price on the Tombow had gone to the price of the Staedtler and I looked at alternatives. In 1 review, in a 3-way test, this pencil gave a nicer line than the Tombow and was described as a smoother writing pencil. To be honest I was reluctant to buy the Mitsubishi because I've had more than a few negative experiences with overseas sellers. The main Seller here is in Taiwan. Having bought, without hesitation I would buy again. The Seller was very easy to deal with. There was no issue on a refund when the pencils missed their delivery window (they arrived a month late). The Seller said to just keep them rather than re-charge me. So I have a comparable pencil to the Tombow, for significantly less money. The pencil takes the larger of a 2-hole sharpener (rather than the smaller). So it is slightly bigger. It doesn't sharpen to the super long point of the Tombow. So it wears down alittle faster given the point is less extreme. But is makes a solid smudge free line that is easy to erase. My suggestion would be to give this Japanese pencil from Taiwan a try. For the price, it is incredible quality.

Another excellent pencil from Mitsubishi.
All Mitsubishi pencils are excellent. This is a cheaper model from their range, but in my experience is pretty much indistinguishable in quality. I used these for making notes in books, general writing and drawing. I wish I had found Mitsubishi pencils 50 years ago!

These made me a pencil evangelist.
Specifically for these pencils. Uni Hi-Pros are good too, but these are the best iteration of #2 type pencils I've ever used. The leads are well centered, they sharpen well, I haven't had any lead or casing fragmentation like I've always run into with Ticonderogas or other common cheap school pencils. They also write very well and feel good to use. They don't have ferrules or erasers, and they don't need them. Erasers on pencils are trash tier erasers anyway that tend to oxidize badly and tear paper. Consider their omission a reason to by a good eraser. A good eraser. Not a pink one. Get white vinyl or the black ones sold by Tombow or Sakura Sumo Grip.
