Blade Runner 2049 has the unfortunate problem of being a sequel to a 1980's classic and a movie so slow, modern going audiences won't have the attention span to get through half of it. Much like the original movie, Blade Runner 2049 is a very slow movie by design. The story revolves around a blade runner detective, simply called K. He is a replicant that is tasked with hunting down the older, more obsolete models. During one of his jobs, he finds a box of bones. These bones contain something special, something that will change the world for both humankind and the replicants. Once the box is open, K finds himself in one giant conspiracy and he takes it on himself to get to the bottom of things.To their credit, all the actors do a great job with their role. This is Ryan Gosling's best role, in my opinion. He does a great job of coming across like a soulless machine slowly gaining his humanity. It is also nice seeing Harrison Ford looking like he actually cares for the role, unlike his recent Star Wars outings. He shows a great range of emotions and has got himself into good physical shape too. Luv (Sylvia Hoeks) is awesome, Joi (Ana de Armas) is charming and beautiful and even Dave Bautista was convincing, even if his time is limited. It's a very solid cast but the movie isn't just about them.There is a serious artistic side to this movie and by that I mean the Roger Deakins cinematography, the overall art style and the booming soundtrack by Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch. The movie has some fast paced action sequences, but they are few and far between. Instead, the movie takes its time. It gives us these beautiful audio and visual landscapes, let's us see the actors work their way through it and gives us just enough time to process it. Those not there for small details will definitely find it a bit empty and longwinded as they glance over the film, it's perfectly understandable to a point. But those looking for a piece of art (like the original), will find the world of Blade Runner 2049 not only faithful to the original but perfectly adapted to modern times.I recently picked up the 4k transfer for a nice discount. I originally acquired a 4k player for the new Star Trek remasters and needed something to test it out. This was my pick and it was a perfect choice. The clarity and depth of this transfer is incredible. The colours are very strong and vibrant. There's no artefacts, no damage or anything of the sort on screen. It's as pristine and beautiful as a movie could be. It may very well be one of the most impressive looking films I have seen. The soundtrack is also very nice, if not a little loud. With the settings just right, the Hans Zimmer soundtrack works perfectly and sounds magnificent through my 5.1 surround sound system.I have seen a lot of fans of the original Blade Runner complain about this movie. It's an embarrassment to the original, it should never have been made etc. I have also seen non fans complain about how slow it is. The latter is understandable (to a point), but I'll never understand how a Blade Runner fan can hate this film. It's not a straight up sequel and has been well written and directed. The way the film was made makes the Deckard character feel like he is there by coincidence instead of being forced in for commercial reasons. It's trying to do its own thing and I think it does it very well.I honestly couldn't recommend this film more, especially if you're a fan of the original. They play wonderfully back to back in 4k and has basically become mandatory viewing in my household. If you want a couple of fantastic films to try out your new 4k television or sound system, the two Blade Runner movies is where you should be looking.

It's been a while since the original - all the extra cuts notwithstanding - but here's a sequel to the well renowned 1980's science fiction film Blade Runner.You have no chance of getting into this if you haven't seen that. So it's really about time you watched if you haven't. You've had over thirty years, after all!Blade Runner 2049 takes place thirty years after the original. The city doesn't look much different. If anything, conditions have gotten worse. Tyrrell corp is gone. A new company and a type of replicant have appeared in the meantime.Main character K [Ryan Gosling] is both a replicant and a Blade Runner. A thankless job, as he has to kill his own kind and most humans hate him. He has only a holographic companion for company. But when a seemingly simple case turns into something far more, secrets start to come out that could change the world. The key to it all might be finding Rick Deckard. Who nobody has seen in decades...Sequels, especially ones that come out quickly after the original, can end up being quick cash ins designed to make money and nothing more. But Blade Runner 2049 is the best kind of sequel. Because it's obvious as you watch it that everyone involved really cared about what they were making.The style is the same, so it's a continuation of things and the world that came before. It's got some great acting, particularly in the shape of marvelllously understated but very sympathetic lead performance from Ryan Gosling. It is good strong proper science fiction. Like the best of that, it considers the big questions of existence and makes the viewer think about them. And the plotting is absolutely superb. A good strong mystery story with many twists and turns and developments along the way.The running time is long, and possibly a little slowly paced at a few points, but it never feels it's dragging at all.This was worth the wait. It's as perfect a sequel as it could be. It does leave the door open for so much more as well. Although a slightly underwhelming box office means we might have to wait another thirty plus years for any more. These can be watched individually or all in a row. All have a short introduction from the director of the movie. And these are three short films he got friends of his to make, all of which fill in some of the story of what happened between the first film and this.2022: Blackout. Runs for fourteen mins and is an anime, telling how a major change in society came to be. It's stylishly animated and manages some very good characterisation.2036: Nexus Dawn. Runs for five mins of live action and is the story of how the new corporation came into power. It's interesting exposition.2048: nowhere to run. Five mins of live action filling in the back story of a character you meet early in the film. Strong characterisation with an emotional impact makes a short that will stay with you for a while.Blade Runner 101:six short items, none longer than ninety seconds to two mins, with cast and crew talking about cetain aspects of the film:The replicant evolution.Blade runners.The rise of wallace corp.Welcome to 2049.Jois.Watch the skies.All are a bit short to have much impact, but are quite interesting viewing while they last, so they're worth a look.It also has the usual flyer with a code for downloading a copy of the film onto a digital device.

Lost my original copy in a fire and always wanted it replaced, however I could never justify the purchase as the price was usually $200 elsewhere and that's insane. This copy was much more fairly priced and its steelbook/discs were in great condition (though there's no plastic sleeve).Pretty happy to have my lost one now replaced. Thanks.

Blade Runner nelle versioni degli anni 80 è il mio film preferito ! Acquistato prima in versione VHS, dopo in DVD, Cofanetto vari DVD ..Blu ray.....the director's cut..the finat cut etc.... conosco il film a memoria ! Dopo anni è stato fatto il sequel ! Devo premettere che Ridley Scott è uno dei miei registi preferiti perciò potrei non essere imparziale ! 2049 è un ottimo film ! La qualità della regia è inutile indicarla ! La storia mi è piaciuta, è un sequel perciò continua il racconto della precedente , gli attori sono ottimi ! La qualità delle immagini è migliore , sono trascorsi 35 anni dal primo film . Se vi era piaciuto il primo film nelle due versioni ( unicorno quando dorme , "innesti nella......" ) questo vi piacerà perchè continua la storia . Non ha la stessa tensione che trasmetteva il primo è rilassante . Se non avete visto il primo dovete prima guardare il precedente per comprendere ! Questo è un sequel se volete comprendere ....dovete prima guardare quello degli anni 80 , La chiave di svolta è la scena dell'unicorno nel sogno di Deckard , l'origami davanti alla porta ! Chi conosce il film degli anni 80 comprenderà la scena......COINCIDENZE ! oopppss. Come sempre spedizione Amazon perfetta !

Il cacciatore di replicanti Rick Deckard interpretato da Harrison Ford e Rachael interpretata da Sean Young provano a fuggire da un destino segnato.“Oggi”, nel 2049, i vecchi Nexus 8 sono stati da tempo superati dai replicanti Nexus 9, migliorati e perfezionati, resi più docili e obbedienti, e l’agente K ( Ryan Gosling ) della Polizia di Los Angeles, anche lui un blade runner, è incaricato di “ritirare” i modelli precedenti che ancora si nascondono da qualche parte. Scopre però un segreto sepolto da tempo che potrebbe far precipitare nel caos quello che è rimasto della società. E questa scoperta lo porta alla ricerca di Deckard, sparito nel nulla da ormai 30 anni.RECENSIONE:“Nato e non creato”. Denis Villeneuve costruisce impalcature visive e inquietudini filosofiche provando a replicare, senza soluzione di continuità le derive sci-fi e noir che Ridley Scott era stato capace di toccare, ormai 35 anni fa, traducendo filmicamente "Il cacciatore di androidi" di Philip K. Dick.Ogni elemento strutturale di Blade Runner 2049 è non solo, non semplicemente, copia conforme dell’originale, ma sentito e ragionato prolungamento di un universo, visivo, ambientale, cinematografico, di uno tra i film più iconici della storia della settima arte.Non c’è una cosa fuori posto, in questa scacchiera dove ogni mossa anche impercettibile, anche apparentemente vuota di senso, o avvolta da lunghi silenzi è figlia di un calcolo. Di una scienza che ancora oggi e, soprattutto, con l’avvento di tecnologie forse impensabili ai tempi del primo film continua a domandarsi “che cosa definisce un essere umano?”.Villeneuve non si sottrae alle inquietudini di natura etica e bioetica, costruisce nel vero senso della parola, visto che ogni set è analogico e non ricreato con il green screen architetture in grado di ospitare comodamente lo script di Hampton Fancher e Michael Green, e instrada la prosecuzione di una storia iniziata 30 anni fa insinuando il dubbio laddove invece le creazioni di Niander Wallace ( Jared Leto ) non dovrebbero prevederlo: dove finisce il confine tra l’obbedienza androide e la ricostruzione di un’identità creata dal nulla ma settata con l’innesto di ricordi artificiali? E che cosa succede se uno di quei ricordi è un frammento di memoria reale?Ci si muove lungo le traiettorie ambientali disegnate allora, la veduta area e notturna di una Los Angeles sempre più caotica e illuminata da ologrammi promettenti qualsivoglia svago e ristoro e ridisegnate oggi attraverso una distopia ancor più grigia, figlia di un collasso degli ecosistemi avvenuto anni prima, l’enorme muro che difende la città dall’oceano minaccioso, il freddo costante, l’inospitalità di luoghi resi inabitabili dall’inquinamento dell’aria, la neve ma, come era ovvio immaginare, il cuore della questione è ancora una volta nascosto nell’abisso di dilemmi ancora oggi irrisolvibili.E l’unico vero limite di Blade Runner 2049, forse, è proprio nel voler rendere più dirette, più a portata, più narrative, questioni che nel film precedente rimanevano sospese, mai enunciate apertamente, fuggendo da facili schematismi che, invece, stavolta, sembrano fiaccare il percorso del racconto, rischiando a volte di spogliarlo della poesia, dell’anima che, al contrario, tutto l’impianto visivo, visionario e architettonico che raggiunge il suo apice quando la splendida Ana de Armas, l’ologramma Joi, si sovrappone al corpo della prostituta interpretata da Mackenzie Davis per rendere carnale, reale, il suo rapporto con K riuscendo a mantenere vivo, saldo in quell’equilibrio quasi commovente tra ricordo del prototipo e creazione di un nuovo cult.“Nato e non creato”, la questione è tutta lì: “In fondo non sei male, anche senz’anima”.IL DISCO:Visivamente eccezionale, lungo e tutto sommato apprezzabile seguito dell’omonimo film classe 1982, fondatore morale del genere cyberpunk, il quale sdoganò la fantascienza distopica e pessimista. Il punto di forza dell’opera rimane la fotografia, con panoramiche e impostazioni artistiche molto ricercate, le quali, tuttavia, potrebbero passare in secondo piano se accorpate ad una durata decisamente sostenuta ed un ritmo volutamente rallentato.Il film del resto è concepito come un sequel ideale del suo predecessore, con tempi molto dilatati abbinati ad uno svolgimento lineare e ad improvvise “svolte” di sceneggiatura. Le inquadrature sono ricche di dettaglio oltre ogni misura. Già dai primi minuti si apprezza la ricchezza delle immagini, basta osservare i dettagli della campagna e dell’albero in primo piano nella fattoria di Morton per rendersene conto. L’immagine si mantiene quindi ricca e definita per l’intera durata, a partire dai primi piani, con incarnati letteralmente “scavati” nello schermo. Le sequenze ambientate nel deserto di rottami sono quanto di più performante si sia visto fino ad ora su un supporto Blu-Ray con panoramiche sulle carcasse meccaniche estremamente “rifinite”, tali da riconoscerci quasi le scritte sopra in lontananza. Sfumature e colori carichi, visibili specialmente nel salone dove si nasconde Deckard, le cui peculiarità “scolpiscono” ulteriormente i contorni di pareti e mobilio. Un quadro di eccellenza assoluta “minato”, per modo di dire, dalle sequenze scure e in cui la foschia sia presente ( tipicamente le panoramiche cittadine in notturna), ove causa l’impostazione fotografica, il dettaglio tende a limitarsi.Il fascino di un'opera come Blade Runner 2049, non è solo visiva ma anche sonora. C'è un grande lavoro sull'audio, sia per la colonna sonora che per gli effetti di questo mondo distopico, e per fortuna queste atmosfere vengono catturate in maniera egregia dal DTS HD Master Audio 5.1. Il DTS HD del Blu-Ray regala un'eccezionale esperienza cinematografica e una completa immersione nel mondo distopico di Blade Runner 2049 grazie a una spazialità ad alto grado di suggestione. La traccia è innanzitutto caratterizzata da un tappeto sonoro di fondo molto attivo e ricco di piccoli suoni, che siano rumori della strada, ologrammi pubblicitari, note musicali o ronzii di api, tutti perfettamente dislocati nello spazio e molto precisi. Un tappeto che riesce a riempire anche i lunghi momenti senza dialoghi, grazie a una costante attività surround. E poi ci sono le occasioni nelle quali l'audio può esplodere in tutta la sua potenza ed energia. Un'esuberanza già apprezzabile all'arrivo del veicolo nella scena iniziale, o nel primo utilizzo di armi, e che dà il suo meglio nel volo dei veicoli ( i panning sono perfetti ), negli elementi atmosferici e nella fragorosa arma di K. Ma anche nella musica: la notevole profondità dei bassi regala infatti spessore al lavoro di Hans Zimmer e Benjamin Wallfisch, che omaggiano con originalità la mitica colonna sonora di Vangelis, mentre i dialoghi sono chiari e puliti, anche se proprio da qualche doppiaggio la traccia italiana esce ovviamente con meno efficacia rispetto a quella originale.CONTENUTI SPECIALI:Gli extra sono buoni con un'ora circa di materiale, anche se forse da un titolo del genere ci si poteva aspettare qualcosa in più.Ma comunque constano di:- La creazione del mondo di Blade Runner 2049. Making of piuttosto esaustivo di 22 minuti;- Blade Runner 101. Raccolta di sei featurette dedicate a specifici spezzoni del film;- Prologhi. Tre corti distribuiti inizialmente sul web, i quali fungono da introduzione al film.
