929D-V Desoldering Pump

I usually use a soldering iron and solder sucker to desolder connections. Thought I would try a combined unit. It took a few minutes to get used to operating the sucker part but after that I noticed it was much faster than using a standalone solder sucker. This can be operated one handed very quickly with out much motion from the pins be de-soldered. A stand alone sucker does a similar thing but requires two hands (iron and sucker) and cycling the sucker takes more motion and time. I think this was a good buy for me since it speeds up the process significantly. I ended up using the small tip for nearly all my use as it just covers an IC pin. Would recommend it to other PCB builders and reworkers.

If you need to desolder through hole components from a circuit board, this is the product you need. It takes about 3-4 minutes to heat up, but it does a fantastic job. I get clean holes in my circuit boards and no pad damage. The suction action is manual -- you push down the plunger, put the tip of the iron of the solder and when you feel it start to melt, you manually hit the button which launches the spring loaded suction. If I had to do hundreds of components, an auto suction would be good, but for occasional DIY work, this works great. Cleaning is pretty straightforward too. There is a small instruction manual that comes with it and it comes with a thing tool to help clean out the tip and channel. At this price, I don't you you'll find a better value that performs as well as this.

First off, it works perfectly fine... at first. I'd say it's a great entry level desoldering tool. I could easily remove 40 pin DIP devices with this tool. It's simple to use. However, it is prone to getting clogged and then the suction goes way down. Having said that, it is easy to take apart. Get used to taking it apart - you will be needing to tear it down periodically. Take the suction assembly all apart. Clean out all the solder. Use vasoline on the silicone sealing ring. Then it'll work again, just like new. Keep using it until it breaks again. Clean it again. It might mess up every 60 to 70 holes. YMMV. But, what more can you ask for out of a product at this price point? I'm happy with it. I only gave it four stars because the need to thoroughly clean it is a little annoying. But, getting a decent desoldering gun for this price is not annoying.

I picked up this YIHUA electric desoldering gun to step up my electronics repair game, and it honestly made a big difference from the first use. Instead of trying to juggle a soldering iron and a separate pump, this heats up fast, melts the solder cleanly, and then just sucks it right out so you can pull parts without fighting the board. The trigger feels natural in the hand and the unit has a good weight to it, so it doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy while you’re working on a console, PCB, or small components. I like that it makes my repairs look cleaner and more professional, and it saves me time and frustration when I have to redo or replace something that’s soldered in tight. If you do any regular electronics work at home or in the garage, this is one of those tools that makes you wonder why you didn’t buy it sooner.

I let it heat up and dang i was amazed. I own a repair buisness always thought these would never work but gave it a long shot. I was able to desolder 28 pins in about 2 minutes. Great if for pins obviously still need wick for many applications but hey game changer here just make sure you let it heat up. If someone in the company that manufactures this season this, please put an on and off switch on it. Great for the price

Neat tool, good item and works very well. I am an electronics guy and had been using a normal soldering iron in 1 hand and a desoldering pump in the other hand for decades. Never ideal, but it worked. I bought this because other reviews had recommended it to me here. I bought it, tried it, and have been using it a lot. So far, so good. It gets hot enough to melt the solder well, and having the suction in the middle of the tip works a lot better than the separate combo does. Also, since you can use this with one hand, and that includes reloading the suction spring, it frees up the other hand to hold components or whatever. Good buy, well worth it. The only thong I am concerned about is if and when the sucker gets stopped up or filled up, I don't see an easy way to take it apart and clean it.

I can't deny that it works, and when it does, it works great. However, no matter how tightly I screw the tip on, it will eventually unscrew itself, posing a safety hazard. Because the tip unscrews, it often doesn't get enough heat to properly suck out all the solder. This leaves solder behind in the hole, which makes it harder to remove. On top of that, I don't know if it's a result of that circumstance or not, but the suction fails because it gets clogged no matter how much I use the rod to clean it. When I disassemble it, I find that the spring is filled with solder, and the rubber gasket (or whatever it's called) becomes loose. This looseness reduces the power of the suction. I've never used this product before, so I can't definitively say if it's defective. However, despite its usefulness, I personally find it difficult to use effectively. Despite this, it has made desoldering much easier than using a wick, particularly for joysticks, so I've given it a 3-star rating.

The good: Very easy to use, heats and liquifies existing joints quickly, metal tip doesn't burn or melt like the teflon-tipped suckers, easy to clean, does not clog easily. At $40, it is priced in between expensive desoldering guns (which cost $200+) and the cheap spring-loaded "solder suckers" that can be had for $10, and it's performance and quality are appropriate for that middle price. --- The not-so-good: While this thing works much better than the unheated vacuum plunger style solder sucker, it does not have the suction I thought it would. On 2-lead through-hole components, it can usually pull all the solder out in one shot. But sometimes you need press the plunger and repeat the process. This is fully through-plated holes, I'm talking about (which everything I work on has). It just cannot draw all the solder out of the hole so that both sides of the plated hole are free of solder and the component lead is no longer stuck. On heavier 3-lead components, like a TO-220 power transistor, I had to sometimes to 5 or more cycles of pressing it firmly over the lead, letting it melt the solder, push the trigger, let it suck SOME of the solder out. Holding it over the lead for a longer time helps, because it more thoroughtly liquifies the solder all the way through the hole. But you need to keep a wet sponge or other heat sink on the compon ent if you do this or the heat will destroy it. I had no trouble getting the hole in the top to fit over all the leads I tested it on, and I did this on everything from little 1/8w through-hole resistors up to larger 3-lead power transistors, 4 amp diodes, and medium sized (2000 uF or so) electrolytic capacitors. It works much better on 2-lead components, because as soon as the solder softens, the lead tends to move toward the center of the hole, and thus when the solder is drawn out, even if it isn't perfect, it isn't stuck to the lead. On a 3-lead device, there are always 2 leads still soldered when you are opening the first hole, so nothing moves, the lead stays against the side of the hole, and any tiny dot of solder will keep it stuck there. Like I said, overall, much better than a plain unheated sucker tool, but not the powerful vacuum I was hoping for, so 4 stars is all it gets.
