I’ve never used a motion bubbler like this. They are somewhat hourglass-shaped acrylic pieces that are flat in the middle and thicker at the tops and bottoms so that they can stand upright. I don’t know if it’s colored oil droplets floating around in water, but it’s mesmerizing and cool to look at and then tip upside down. As I mentioned, these are mostly flat, so they aren’t cylindrical tubes with dimensionality.I understand the comparisons to a lava lamp, but I don’t think they scratch quite the same itch. However, these are safe and easy to handle. They don’t need to be plugged in, and you don’t have to worry about knocking them over and breaking them. I think it would probably take actual effort to break these and not just some accident.I haven’t tested how consistent the timing is, but if it’s consistent, these would be a cool replacement for a sand timer.

The media could not be loaded.  I love that this is a 3-pack because I have 3 niece-nephews! I also like that they are individually packaged so you can give as separate gifts. I used to have some of these as a kid and I remember being fascinated with them and it somewhat calmed me. I gave these to them and they loved them. They’re made well, work just as they’re supposed to, and there’s 3 different colors so none are the same. These also work well as timers for teeth brushing or reading or anything else kids need to do!

We have several of the small motion bubblers in various colors. I got this one to supplement the collection. This larger one actually goes for about two minutes from beginning to end about twice as long as the smaller ones. Essentially, these are two pieces of plastic put together, each filled with a different colored liquid that moves through the clear liquid. It looks like the two colors are interacting but they never really touch. The motion is reminiscent of a lava lamp but much safer. They are soothing to watch and play with. Everyone in our household enjoys them.

We bought these as "calm down" timers for our kiddos. So far they've been great for that, but I also find them regularly just holding and playing with them for fun. They like to watch the colors blend and see how it works when placing it on it's side/etc.

Think of these as safe lava lamps. Kids have them all around the house now and everyone picks them up and messes with them.

These bubblers are relaxing to watch & work mostly as you'd expect. In a few places, they are not perfectly sealed & the timing on both sides is not identical, so they won't work as timers. If you just like to watch the pretty colors fall, these are fine. They look cool, but they are too fast to be truly soothing for any length of time. Adequate.
