Great light for reading in bed.

My first impression was, “This is huge” (note my photo of this item compared to a standard 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper). Because of the size, it feels a bit bulky. The battery pack in the center of the neck piece is hard plastic (as is the whole unit). I’d love to see them add some cushion as the neck piece can be uncomfortable if you’re lying against your pillow. The control of the two lights takes some getting used to. You hold the shaft between your fingers & thumb, then slide your fingers & thumb down the shaft. The speed of your slide and the length you hold your fingers on the shaft cycles the light from white, to cool, to warm, as well as from bright to dim. It sounds confusing but once you play with it, you’ll get the hang of it. The dim-ability makes this light perfect for reading at night without over powering your night vision. You can turn off each side individually, so run just one light for an even dimmer setting. I give this 4 stars because it performs precisely as stated, and for the price it’s a handy light system. Its’ just bigger than I thought it would be.

I bought this particular light, without doing any comparison shopping, because it was recommended by the CrazySockLady on her podcast as the one she uses. The light is comfortable enough, it gives enough light, does its job, etc. The problem is, in real life, the touch controls are way too sensitive and the light keeps changing from one setting to another and even turning itself off on one side or the other while I'm using it, because I accidentally brush against the controls. It's extremely frustrating, and I would have liked this thing a lot better if it had control buttons that actually have to be pushed, deliberately. I will keep this as an emergency light for knitting during a power outage, but that's about it.

I use this for extra light when I'm knitting in the evening hours. I can knit multiple evenings for a few hours at a time before needing to recharge the battery. my only complaint is that the light controls are very sensitive. It's hard to grasp the arms to adjust light position without changing or turning off the light...and sometimes I accidentally bump the arm and it changes/turns off the light.

The OUTXE Hands-Free Reading Light Around Neck is a useful tool to have. It's comfortable, even for my petite neck. The lights are bright, and each side is individually adjustable. I use it when I'm sewing on my machine, as I can aim the lights to shine right on the needle. I also use it the same way for hand sewing. It's also great for walking, as I can aim the lights ahead of me, and have my hands free. Once I start traveling again, I'm sure it will be handy to use while reading on an airplane.
