Review: Works Great with Good Drag and Smooth Retrieve - I used this Penn 8000 Reel today at Texas City Dike, Texas. I take the drag off so the fish will not pull the rod in the ocean or break the pole, reel, or line. I have seen this happen. There are sharks in this waterway that are several hundred pounds. I caught 2 Monster Drum Fish. One fish ( 36" fish)on my old reel. The drag could not hold the fish. I had to pull it ashore by hand. However, a short time later. I caught another Monster Drum ( 24" fish, see pictures) on the new Penn 8000 reel. I forgot to set the drag in the excitement. However, the Penn 8000 brought the fish in, and I was able to pull the fish up without a net (since the first fish broke my net). Some have complained and returned this product because "it was loose." I was going to buy this reel a few years ago at a local Fish and Boat store. It was approximately $150. However, you had to state whether you are left-handed or right-handed. I think all these reels are "right-handed ( since the majority of people are right-handed). When you try to attach the handle on the left-hand side, it is very loose and does not crank the line spool. The manufacturer may have an adapter for left -handed people. I highly recommend this product.

**Q: what is clam? what is difference between clam and non clam?**
A: Clam is a plastic shell instead of a box. That the reel is packaged in.

**Q: is this a saltwater reel? Can I saltwater wade fish?**
A: Yes, this is both a fresh and salt water reel. In fact the new Pursuit IV is PENN’s most modern and improved spinning reel designed for saltwater. Thanks for PENN using SEALED BALL BEARINGS and getting away from the Shielded Ball Bearings as used in the pursuit Iii, Fierce 3 or Battle 3. It’s actually more corrosion resistant than the SpinFiasher because Sealed bearings are what Slammer uses. Penn is making a huge improvement with sealed roller bearings in the Pursuit 4. As the other models are redesigned, I’m sure Penn will be replacing the shielded bearings with sealed.

**Q: is this a saltwater reel? Can I saltwater wade fish?**
A: most definitely, I use all mine in salt water, just be sure to hose rod and reel down after each fishing trip, and i use a shot of real magic on reel
