To remove a tree.
I bought this auger bit mainly to remove a small tree about 8 feet tall later in the fall. The tree is about 10 years old with a trunk of about 4 inches in diameter. It may seem strange to others but I want to loose the dirt only with this auger drill. Then I will use a shovel to remove the dirt. I have already tried it at the base of the tree and because I ran into some roots, I then changed over to my 1/2 inch drill motor that runs a much lower speed with lots of power. I plunged the drill bit into the ground within 2 inches of the shank showing. The plan is to do this multiple times. I will let you know if it works for me. Thanks. Robt.

Cheap. Yay?
This auger is what it is-simple, relatively long, cheap import but has a couple of flaws due to just that:First, the chuck end is painted thus easily loses grip when you encounter anything denser than loam. It's starting to show signs of permanent stripping ( attached photo.) Expect to get out the grinder and start modifying this thing. When securely chucked, this thing wobbles like mad. That's not such a bad thing, however understand this is not built to exact tolerances. The core rod is slightly warped which is exacerbated when you really get this thing going. Finally, the tip or bit end is not capable of handling any rocks and will jam abruptly, so prepare your wrists for that!Pros: it's cheap! In sum, this is the typical cheap and untested product with flaws that should be easy to refine.

Well designed earth auger for planting bulbs and vegetable seedlings
Well designed, correctly sized, and appropriately painted (to prevent rust). Not much more to say on this one. I've included photos to show the size and proportion (the carpenter's square is 1 foot long in the longer dimension).

Labor Saver!
Having dug up and split our daffodils and tulips, we had hundreds of bulbs to deal with. After giving away as many as we could, we still had hundreds of bulbs to deal with. Hand planting the traditional way, with a trowel, was out of the question. Looking for a better, quicker, less labor intensive way, I found this. Simply a godsend! I planted several hundred bulbs over the course of a weeks time, working an hour or two each day. Can't say it still wasn't a lot of work, but I can say it allowed me to do hundreds, instead of dozens, of bulbs! Will (And have!) recommend this to anyone wanting to do a few, or hundreds, of bulbs! We are eagerly anticipating the blooms next spring, around our 5 acres!

make planting bulbs easy!
I will say this makes planting bulbs a whizz! Although in our sandy soil it was hard to keep the drilled holes open. Also, keep in mind the diameter of this auger because not all bulbs are the same size. This worked well for smaller bulbs but I had to get a larger Auger for larger bulbs! I can also see this as being very helpful in the spring to plant small plugs of flowers from 6 packs or similar out in the yard.

Great for hard, claylike dirt, but could be improved
I had about 50 bulbs to replant this year and bought this tool to facilitate digging in the hard clay ground after a long, hot, dry summer. It did the job, but once you dig into the ground the dirt just falls back into it so then you have to get out a shovel or keep using the drill bit over and over to get the hole cleared. There isn't any stretch it's actually only about 8" long, not as long as the picture shows. I don't regret buying it cause it does dig in hard dirt, but plan on using another tool to remove the dirt once dugout.

Small but mighty
I ordered the smaller one and it fits great in my drill. I needed to go through sheet composting material (sawdust/cardboard/sod/dirt) to put in some plants and although it was slow going at times, it really did the trick. I'm sure once my garden breaks down, using this auger will be a lot of fun and will be my go to tool.

FEED AUGER PROOF OF CONCEPT DESIGN
3/8" drive is very desirable for feed auger experiment. I bought two of these auger flights to fabricate into one single auger flight. You get approx. 16 inches of flight. I was able to combine two to get approx. 32" of flight. The material was quite durable but easy enough to fabricate into one auger. I am quite pleased with the quality and dimensions. I cut the tip off back up inside the flight approx. the length of the drive shaft portion (approx. 8-10inches) of the untouched auger, using Harbor Freight Dremel cutoff blade. I used 4" side grinder to cut flight welds to 3/8th's shaft. I pulled the severed shaft from the flight & then inserted the other untouched auger drive shaft up inside the flight where the 8-10:" of tip were. My objective was to make a feed auger.. All welded up with ease & worked as expected.

Would buy again
Works like a charm! By using this tool while under a deck, we were able to easily break up soil to make excavating holes for 4”X4” posts in a confined working space, an easy job.

Good for medium light works.
It is a good tool, helpful for making holes, but only at well prepared soil, you can use it for medium light works.

Too feeble for serious planting
The auger is flimsy at best. It arrived way too late and when I tried to send back the postage charges were quoted at $54.00. Bought a better auger at Lee Hardware.
