NHL Pillow Pet

If you're a Tiger's fan, you can go out and get a stuffed tiger. If you're a Bear's fan, you can get a stuffed bear. If you're a Wings fan, you get a stuffed .... octopus! His name is Al. Why is an octopus the unofficial mascot of the Detroit RedWings, you might ask. Here's a little history lesson:In 1952 a pair of brothers tossed an octopus onto the ice. There were only 2 rounds of playoff back then which means 8 games were required to win Lord Stanley's Cup. Each of the arms of the Octopus represented one of the 8 games. That season the Wings swept both the semi-finals and the finals and won the series in just 8 games. A meme was born. Since then fans have thrown octopi onto the ice during the playoffs. As a displaced Wings fans living in Chicago, I deeply enjoy the presence of cephalopods at the United Center. Red Wings fans are an interesting and very dedicated bunch.So anyway, about this product. This product is an Al pillow pet, no doubt. It's a purple octopus in a RedWings sweater. He's got kind of an angry snarl on his anthropomorphised face. It's very plush and soft. It makes a better pillow than a pet. Most pillow pets have a strap that goes across the belly that kind of folks the pillow up into a pet. This has the belt, but it doesn't fold the pet up at all. It's just kind of a belt.This product is not good, but it's not terrific. I thing there's probably a standard pillow pet design, which usually involves 4-legged critters. Al's arms are kind of in 4 pairs rather than being evenly distributed.If I ever had a need for another Al pillow pet, I would definitely buy this again. Perhaps I will send some as gifts to the other WingNuts out there.

I admit, I'm 44 yet I bought this to sleep with. I like to cuddle a stuffed animal and this thing is plenty big for that. It's very soft, and my only complaint is this: it's not clear in the description, but this can also be used as a pillow. It has a Velcro tab on the bottom that keeps Louis in the position you see him in the picture. This Velcro can be scratchy when you're trying to snuggle with him because you can't quite get it to stay completely fastened all the time. The price is a bit ridiculous, but you're paying for the fact that it's an official licensed NHL product.

This pillow pet was my granddaughter's favorite Christmas present . She almost didn't get it. I was tempted to keep it for myself.

Bought it for my pastor but then my kid saw it and decided it was too soft to *not* be his. We aren’t even huge chicago blackhawks fans.

Just what I needed. My son has one that he absolutely loves, but his love has begun to take its toll on it, so having a backup that will stay preserved until the original wears out is perfect for us. These are hard to find and hard to find a better deal online, so I was pleased to find it under $20.00. Thank you so much.

This pillow was a gift so it's more of the aesthetic that the quality of the product. While packing it my finger went through one of the seams so stitching seems to be of poor quality. I gave it to a 5 year old boy so I hope it can last at least a year of use.

My boyfriend is a huge Detroit fan, so I couldn't resist getting him this pillow pet as a birthday present. Now it sits in the place of honor in his man cave. It did take a bit longer than expected to get here, so he had to wait a few days after his birthday until his present arrived.

My daughter saw one of these at the United Center and I really didn't want to both pay the stadium up charge and have to lug this around where it would like be drenched in soda at the game. I was really impressed with the size and the quality of the materials.
