It works great, but there are some things to know
I have been using this for over a year now and am extremely satisfied with it. There are however some things that everyone should know when "trying" or using this product. First, it IS NOT a miracle cure to not have to scrub the pool tile on a weekly basis. I did have some scale on my tiles from a pool service that was not properly scrubbing them. After starting to use this product, over TIME (weeks), the scale was removed with weekly brushing and proper chem management. Basically, if the water is not balanced and the tiles are not scrubbed weekly, water line scale is still possible. I imagine that to be true of any similar product. (Orenda has an App for water balance and chem usage. I HIGHLY recommend using it to sort out your PH, ALK, Calcium, Stabilizer, etc.). The second thing.... Initial startup. The initial startup of using this product requires a much larger dose than the weekly maintenance. When the startup dose is applied, the chlorine level WILL drop to nothing. This will last for several days or so. I do not know why, but chlorine will try to react against this and.... the chlorine will lose that battle:-) Orenda has information on their site about this. But, in short, this is temporary and this chlorine reduction DOES NOT occur with weekly doses. I guess the chlorine soldiers figure out that this is not an invading force and go back to normal. Haha. That is my scientific explanation. Long term how does it do? I have a 3 year old pool and have no staining on any of the metal hardware in the pool and no water line scaling at all. Also, I originally purchased a couple quarts and went to the gallon and just refill the old quart bottles. It has been cheaper for me to buy by the gallon.

Great chelating chemical
Works well. Clouds up the water but a week later it is clear.

Quality product
Used to eliminate carbonate crystals caused by a water imbalance. Not all crystals can be removed. I happened to be unlucky and did not receive total results. However, product did help. Why did I give it 5 stars when it didn’t totally solve my problem? The company is fantastic. They have so much information on the internet to educate consumers. Their customer support is fantastic. They believe in their product and it shows. I will have our, pool “polished” to remove my remaining crystals and will move forward with using Orenda products. I believe their products are high quality.

As Advertised!
Works great to eliminate white ring around the pool. Weekly treatment keeps the ring from returning.

Smoother gunite pool
Works great! Breaks down calcium deposits makings pool walls and floor smoother. Best product I have found. But kinda pricey. And absolutely kills your chlorine and expect a struggle to get the levels back up again.

best left to the pros
I’ve never left a review, but wanted to amplify the warning of one of the 3-star reviewers: a purge dose of this product will likely decimate chlorine not just for a few days after application, but for weeks, regardless of how much chlorine or shock you add — until all of the SC-1000 is exhausted (after “chelating” or binding to all of the calcium carbonate or other minerals in your pool) your chlorine doesn’t stand a chance.. How long will that take? No one can say. Is there any way to determine how much unbound or unstabilized SC-1000 is left in the water? No. It's been a few weeks and counting for me, during which I've added a cumulative 79 ppm of chlorine, at considerable expense, nearly all of which has been deleted within hours. How much of this is due directly to the SC-1000, and how much is due to the algae that has inevitably taken hold, I don't know. HASA/Orenda customer support is friendly and well intentioned, but their blogs and other educational articles are more Chem 101 than concrete advice, and missing these important caveats. I understand: they are in the business of selling pool chemicals. However, it’s going to be very difficult if not impossible for your average homeowner to distinguish calcium scale vs. calcium crystals vs. sulfate crystals, and very difficult to use this product without watching helplessly as your pool turns into a bog. As for what it's supposed to do (remove mineral buildup from plaster pools without having to drain and wash with muriatic acid), I don't see any evidence that it's been effective. User error? Possibly. Will I have to drain and refill my pool anyway to get rid of the residual, unstabilized SC-1000? Possibly.

Does not appear to have worked as well as I had hoped.
I brought my pool level up above its normal level and added this product in hopes of removing the white scale ring around the pool. This appeared to be working but after two weeks, it is still the same as before. This product does take the chlorine out of your pool as stated on the bottle. So my white ring around the pool was still there, and I had to add shock back to the pool twice to bring back the chlorine levels. It didn't seem to work for my white calcium ring. We have a heavy amount of calcium in our water supply though so maybe it will work better for others.
