WONDERFUL BOOK ABOUT THE MUSIC BIZ AND SOHO ETC 60S TO 80S
I've known the name Tony Stratton Smith for 45 years since getting into Genesis, and was fascinated by this book and it didn't disappoint. Lots of detail about the fun and music and names of the London music biz and Soho... from 50s to 80s. I ended up in music in soho in 87 just weeks after he died and plenty of places get a mention that I knew - st Moritz, Nellie dean... I also went to a few Strat Awards nights... genesis fans will love it and also anyone who was around music and or soho in the 60s to 80s... also Man United fans and racing fans... I'd like to say that it is quite a thick book - very readable and good value - which I love. I have the mischievous feeling that maybe an editor would have liked to cut it... but correctly thought that they may as well leave it as is... anyone interested in this chap's life at all would like to see the lot. True!I would respectfully say that if you have arrived at this review then you must have an inkling about who Strat was and if so, you simply must buy this wonderful book. When I had 60 pages to go I went to my local lovely pub to sit and have a beer and savour them, alone.A really lovely and most enjoyable book. Thank you Chris for writing it and to Wymer for publishing it. RIP Strat

A comprehensive look at an old school businessman
I must admit that I struggled with the first half of the book as it does go into incredible detail of Strat's work in the 60's and early 70's. I was more interested the Genesis and 80s periods which are still covered in great detail. As Strat died in the mid 80s the author never got to interview him, although archive quotes are used from him and the author has interviewed quite a few people who worked with him.I think this book would appeal to die-hard music industry fans who are interested in the influential figures who shaped it.
