PetronSports Stealth Handbow

This arrived yesterday and you'd swear I was physically torturing the kids by making them wait a day to play with this. This thing arrived in like two days, it was super fast, but then I think Amazon must have had these on hand for those of us who were lucky enough to sample it. So, it was really easy to put it together and easy enough to show the kids how to use it. I was impressed by how much metal there is, it is really sturdy and had a good weight to to it. We had gotten the kids two different models of the Nerf Rebelle, the first one the things it shot were weightless and worthless and the string part broke, the second one we liked a lot but the 1/8 inch black plastic used for the sting disintegrated or dissolved really weirdly in a matter of months and Nerf does not have replacements available. Getting this was a great improvement, something that actually works as advertised, my husband tried it out and said it shoots really straight. I tried it out and it has a lot of power behind the dart, it is really strong shooting, so despite being plastic and rubber the velocity of the darts made use decide that indoors the only safe target is the fridge. We cut out the target on the box and taped it to the fridge and let the kids have at it, they loved it, had lots of fun, and practically cried when we said their time with tonight was up. The darts stuck really well to glass (first and last shot on that surface) and they stuck really well on the stainless fridge, and they stuck just as well on the printed cardboard target. When we have more time this weekend if it is not too cold I want to tape the target to side of the pole barn and let the kids do it out there so they can back up farther and shoot from farther away. For what you get the price on this is great, this little handbow is just $20 free shipping, cheap enough that you should buy two if you have more than one kid as they WILL fight over it like mine did. Strong, sturdy, accurate, well priced, what's not to love?

OK- so we might not win parents of the year getting a toy weapon for a five year old, but our son is into Super Heroes like Hawkeye and Green Arrow…so…we took a chance on the Petron Sports Stealth Handbow and it actually has turned out to be a great toy- under constant supervision of course.There is some assembly required but it’s easy and intuitive and within about 10-15 minutes it is ready to go. The bow is made of metal and heavy duty plastic so it has some stability behind it and can withstand a bit of manhandling by a youngster. The darts themselves are heavy plastic with a rubber suction head to allow them to stick to most surfaces. One should be careful as they do shoot with some velocity- I am not too concerned with standard windows but they may crack things like mirrors or knock over glass bottles pretty easily.After we shot the first couple, we decided it was an outdoor toy- one where we aimed at a specific target or used in an open area and shot for distance. It’s pretty accurate for a toy and the loading operation is easy enough to master that our child can do it with a bit of help- of course that just means the parents have to be that much more careful as the temptation is great to aim for one’s brother. The darts are rubber so I don’t think they would hurt…but still…Overall, it’s a fun toy and we will probably look at other Petron products like the full sized bow once the boys are a bit bigger and are still into super heroes.

This requires a simple 2 step put together before using and requires a Phillips head screwdriver. The gun is all plastic, the bow is metal, the darts are plastic with a soft suction cup tip. The darts need to be loaded and fired one at a time and you must manually pull the bow string back and set it in place before placing each dart. A dart will fly nearly 30 feet in a windless environment, but is falling and losing speed in the last 1/3 of that distance. This is fun for empty soda or beer can target practice. The packaging states it is not a toy and intended only for ages 14 and older. There is a target printed on the back of the box, but I did not bother using it. That target is only about 7 inches in diameter. This is an interesting toy and seems well made, but it is pretty simple and not flashy. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. There are divots beneath the barrel of the gun which can hold 5 of the 12 included black and orange darts.

The Petron Sports Stealth Handbow is a pleasant surprise. My main concern was safety. Even though I’d read that it came with special safety darts, I was concerned that one of the more enterprising tweens around our place could figure out a way to use the real deal. While I can’t rule out the possibility entirely, I feel better with the mechanism Petron Sports added that is supposed to make it next to impossible to use anything except their sucker darts (twelve included, more available to purchase). Anyway, this was a hit right out of the box. I hovered and stayed available, but no help with assembly was needed. After a few test shots, it was time for some competition. There is a target on the box that we tried first, but the “darts” had a hard time sticking. If you really want a target, Petron Sports sells a Sureshot Target, Orange/Black made especially for their sucker darts. We switched to cans and plastic bottles lined up on a garage work bench. I had horrible aim until my younger co-player took pity on me and pointed out that I was using only one sight. There are two, front and rear, and using them together makes a huge difference. Don’t be fooled by the mostly plastic construction; this thing has some power. It’s impressive how far away one can stand and still knock targets over. I highly recommend this for anyone, young teens through adult, interested in trying a handbow; it’s safe, powerful and lots of fun.
