Happy Camper after reading this book!
I love the information in this book! I have lived in Alaska nearly my entire life and am actually married to an Alaskan native man from south western Alaska...I have learned so much from this book and I highly recommend it to everyone who lives in Alaska. The information is compiled in a very unique but usable way. Worth the money for sure!

Interesting Reading!
If you enjoy plants and ethnobotony, this is a good choice! The drawings and information on the plants is very good. I really enjoyed the information (and sometimes recipes) of how the Native Peoples used them. Great insights into how people all over the planet have made use of what is around them!

There is so much good information in this book but the pictures/drawings are black and white and if one does not know what the plant looks like it will be really hard to identify.

A Well-Organized, Informative, Thoroughly Researched Essential Book for any Alaskan!
Anore Jones has obviously done her research extremely well for this book. You can tell that she has lived it, breathed it, and kissed it for luck as she puts the blueberries in the seal pokes as she candidly describes the plants and their many uses. This book just cannot be touted enough, and if you live in Alaska and have land then this book is an essential guide for your daily harvesting life. With this book, you can learn how to live off of, properly preserve, and traditionally serve the very food that is right there to nourish your heart and soul along with your body. Important nutritional and scientific information is included, too, so that all the bases are covered.I have read this book countless times, I refer to it again and again, and it's one that went into my basket for handy identification in the field on every single trip out.I cannot thank Anore Jones enough for having put this book together. I simply did not have the knowledge, but when I needed it it was there thanks to her efforts to properly, thoughtfully, and honestly document the way it should be and will be again once the grocery stores are all gone and we are back to being truly free children of our Earth Mother.Peace, Love, Blessed Be ~THC

A wonderful reference text for disapearing knowledge
I purchased this book because it was a supplemental reading suggestion for a botany class. This book is absolutely fantastic for anyone interested in the traditional uses and preparations of plants around northern Alaska. There is so much knowledge crammed in to this book I wish it came in a water proof version to take out in to the field with me. I enjoy reading it for my own knowledge and Anore's simple illustrations and commentary throughout the book make it easy enough to read with junior high students. If you pair this book with Schofield's 'discovering wild plants' book you will have enough knowledge to keep you entertained for the entire summer and well in to fall.

Great book written by someone who knows the material
Great book written by someone who knows the material! Unlike the typical guide written by a "survival expert" in the backyard, this work actually presents workable information based on real world experience. Love it...
