Flutter Away
First of all I have not downloaded the Vidiyo App and I am actually not likely to. I know that is what they are designed for but I will admit I got these more for the Minifigures than for any interest in making music videos through the App. This does make the set seem expensive, however, if you are going to be using the Vidiyo App then you have to factor in the actual licensing costs to Universal and their Artists that make the App possible by uploading their back catalogue on there.Beyond that the set is actually pretty fun.The box itself is simple to build and even comes with a little storage box for those additional beatbit tiles. The lid for this storage compartment is decoratable and each instruction leaflet gives you three options for a design. Alternatively you could make your own from the pieces included (you do get a few spares) or raid your stash and do something truely unique. The box clips together firmly and the handle feels strongly attached. You could deifnitely use the box to transport your beatbits and minifigure around with no problems. The minifigure itself is nicely detailed and has a front and back print to the torso. The accessories reflect the figure's Vidiyo role and you can easily store the figure with accessories in place in the Beat Box. The included hard plastic fairy wings are absolutely beautiful. The 16 included beatbit tiles are well printed and come in a variety of colours so you can change them out based on the image on the front or their colour. Alternatively you can use them for what they are meant for - special actions within the App. Personally I think they will be a great resource for MOcs, particularly wall art or for using as book covers or vinyl album covers.Number Of Pieces: 144Approximate Price Per Piece: £0.12Build Time: 10 Minutes

Hate the app, Love the minifig!
This is a new type of set by Lego, designed to be used with one of their apps to make interactive music videos, starring Lego minifigures alongside you and your friends. The set comes with one minifigure (a fairy violinist) and a box (made of Lego) to carry them in. You can decorate the back of the box with lots of small mosaic tiles, we liked how many were provided so that we could keep changing them. The set also comes 16 2*2 Lego tiles, each different colours with pictures on them- Lego call these Beatbits. You chose which of these Beatbits to use for each video and these control which added special effects appear in the video.Once in the app you scan your minifigure to add them as a bandmate. You put your bandmate in their- which folds out to become their stage. You decorate the flaps on the side of the stage with up to 12 Beatbit tiles and start. You then scan the stage- we had trouble here- we found that it never scanned all our beatbits, limiting the special effects we could use in the video. When left the kids to use the app themselves my 9-year-old son kept getting ‘Oops, bandmate not recognised’ and became increasingly frustrated. Each Beatbit corresponds to a special effect such as a cat flying across the screen, a kaleidoscope effect of an instrument for the minifigure bandmate to play. Each Beatbit you use does require you to download the extra effect- using data and phone space. The app has multiple music tracks you can choose to make you video to- these do not need to be downloaded. We couldn’t work out how to share the video we made with anyone outside the Vidiyo community- this is a downside for us. Our boys are 7 and 9 and would want to share the video with their direct friends and family rather than to a wider social media audience. If you like Vidiyo then you can either buy different beatboxes to expand your options in the app. You can also buy bags similar to minifigure grab bags where you get a surprise minifigure and extra beatbits but not their storage case. Given that making the video doesn’t use any interaction with the bricks themselves once they have been scanned it does make the use of Lego in this almost pointless. As huge Lego fans we were really disappointed, have deleted the app and wont be getting any other small sets.If you are considering purchasing the set then I would recommend that you check that your device is compatible and have a play on the app with the free trial minifigure first.I have one of the bigger sets and they have much more playablity and function without using the app, I think it’s definitely worth considering how much you will use the app and how much you like playing with lego and building with it. I had a much more enjoyable experience with the bigger sets, from this set I will just be keeping my minifig which is one of my all time favs and what saves the set and makes it worth having for me, the beatbits won’t be used from this set for me.

Bright and lots of fun
This is two toys in one. Firstly it is a bright, Lego construction toy to build a little stage for the boho fairy. All the pieces are bright and well made (as you’d expect from Lego) and once built it has a real 60’s folky look. Some of the pieces are tiny, so this is really only suitable for older children of 7+.The second part is the app, you Download the free augmented reality app to scan the music minifigure toy and reveal the folk fairy’s stage persona. Then scan the BeatBits (included) to unlock special effects. Kids will love completing challenges and more as they produce their own unique folk music videos, and share with others in a kid-safe social feed.Overall a lovely quality toy and an ingenious AR app, but it was quite expensive for this small toy..even if it is Lego. (The price had been £17.99, but now reduced to £11.99 so better value.

The app works well
I am not keen on all these augument reality sets that require you to download an app but I do like the concept. However my son loves it. It hasa good build quality as you find with lego. The app was free and there was no hidden in app purchases, you simply scan your lego set with your phone and it comes to life. You get a minifigure and some collectables included. It also folds so you can take it where ever you go. It was simple to build and the instruction leaflet gives you three options for a design. Its quite solid when built as well. Takes about 15 minutes to build and there is a lot of detail on the bricks which is nice. If you are a lego fan then you will probably buy this anyway. Price wise it sint too expensive concidering its Lego and as we all know lego holds it value.
