Great until.....
Overall it was a good product, just don't expect it too last too long.I own 2 and within a week of each other after about 8 months they both fell off windshield and won't suction again!I used both of these phone holders suctioned to the windshield of my SUV and Sedan. The suction cup is connected internally to the holder via a strong spring, I can't tell exactly what gave out, but basically that connection is now very weak and makes the phone holder un-usable. If I try to use it now, just falls off the windshield.

In my opinion the BEST car phone mount on the market. Fits all phones including my iphone 6+
DISREGARD ALL PREVIOUS REVIEWS FOR THIS PRODUCT PRIOR TO JAN 1st 2014. THE MANUFACTURER MADE A NEW VERSION THAT COMPLETELY CHANGES THE DESIGN AND FUNCTIONALITY OF THE PRODUCT BUT DID NOT UPDATE THE PRODUCT NAME OR SKU NUMBER ( which was a dumb move not to change the name in my opinion). The difference with the new version is the "cradle" or the part that your phone goes into. I'll list the new cradle and old cradle. The new cradle:It CAN handle an iphone 6 plus, and can probably hold ANY phone ever made as the side grabbers go out a quarter of an inch on either side WIDER than my iphone 6+ wen fully opened. It can do any iphone, i know that for sure, and probably any android. The only thing I don't know is the MINIMUM grab width but I'll say that it probably cant do the old-style indestructible skinny nokia phones. The cradle has a button you push that release the side "arms", the arms go outward slowly and simultaneously (is if they are driven by hydraulics) which is really cool looking, they're only missing this "tSsssss" sound :P You then have to squeeze the grabby arms back on your phone by hand. They have a "lip" at the end of the grabby arms to make sure your phone does not fall out. The grabby arms also have foam on the part that touches your phone's sides to "grip" your phone into place. The bottom part of the cradle that your phone "sits" in can be flipped back flat against the cradle so that the only thing holding your phone up are the grabby arms (this is up to you of course).By the way, the old cradle and new cradle are interchangeable as the old base (suction cup part) and new base are exactly the same. Just FYI.Old Cradle:They don't sell the old style cradle on amazon anymore but let's just say that the old cradle sucked. You had to "manually" adjust the cradle positioning based on your phone size. There are 3 grooves on either side of the back of the cradle and the plastic arms that grabbed your phone slid into those grooves, and you could slide them closer or further together based on the grooving based on your phone size. If your phone was bigger or smaller or in between those groove sizes, you were out of luck. The "base" or suction cup part:This is the only part of the mGrip that's still exactly the same from the old version (they may have changed the inner workings though, i don't know). The suction cup mounts on your window and there's a latch that you "ratchet" down so that the suction cup REALLY sticks to your glass. There's a button at the front of the base that you push to release the "ratchet" tension allowing you to remove the suction cup, so unless you forgot to ratchet it on, it ain't coming off. I've gone more than 6 months without the suction cup coming off my windshield so in that respect its FANTASTIC.I do have to mention, and keep in mind this is back when I bought the original old cradle style version back in 2012 (so they may have reworked the internal components so that this doesn't happen anymore, i don't know), but back in 2012 when i pushed the button to release the ratchet hold on the suction cup, the button/base/ratchet mechanism broke and I had to buy a new version (I shouldav invoked the warranty but forgot), this flaw may be fixed now though. I haven't experienced the flaw since then but now I know exactly where the button is and how hard to push it to release the ratchet hold.

I just don't want it UP on dash where it might obstruct view of road yet easily viewable. Hence my desire for a VERY flexible ..
This holder is for Samsung Galaxy S4 in my 2008 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. The dash slopes quickly, has a big center dashboard and I have a very specific preference for the location of my phone once mounted. I want it lower then the bottom of windshield and almost behind steering wheel. I just don't want it UP on dash where it might obstruct view of road yet easily viewable. Hence my desire for a VERY flexible mount. This device with its claims of long arm (almost 10-12") and strong suction all lived up to description. Picture my pickup bouncing hard down the road. The suction? Holds fast, never falls off. The flexible arm is like a Gumby. I was able to bend it 45° right out of suction mount. Then a slight slope following dash contour. Then another 45° bend up this time to place phone right in front of leading edge of dash above radio. Finally a turn to the left toward steering column to put the phone centered on front edge of dash and JUST a bit behind steering wheel at 3 o'clock position. This took 20 minutes and multiple repositioning. All that time of off and on, the suction was tight each time I stuck it on and took it off (6 to 8 times?). The shaft itself was as I said VERY flexible but also stiff enough to hold shape firmly after all that bending this way and that until happy. Finally the phone holder component is also above aversge. It easily grasps phone simply by pushing the button behind the holder to make left and right rubber padded grippers pop open. Flick the two bottom tabs to rest phone on OR keep them closed to allow for larger phones to position lower and out of line-of-sight. I flip the two feet out and phone rests nicely. They I use one, one-handed firm grip to bring left and right padded rubber lugs in contact with phone aND one last bit of squeeze and phone if tightly mounted. As if it was firmly in your hand and flat square to your face.Like I said, I bounce along paved and dirt-bumpy roads and it's never bounced out. The size and spacing of bottom feet and rubber side grippers provides very easy access to my phones bottom charger port and sides give me clear access to volume control on left, on/off button on right and finally aux/earbuds poet on top.To UNDO the holding grip you just take one finger to a button on the rear of holder and a little push and phone grippers slide wide-open but still resting on feet until you simply lift it free.1. I would buy this again if mine wore out.2. I would recommend it to friends and family.3. On my first unit I way OVER-BENT that first extreme 90° turn from straight down off windshield to pointing straight at my face, I pulled the flex arm right out of the base. NOT a manufacturing defect. No it was a mental & physical defect in me. But I still called Macally and they provided a speedy exchange. That's why 5-stars. HAPPY MOTORING.

RE: phone mount
Overall 2 to 3 stars. NEEDS IMPROVEMENT. it eventually brakes off towards the bottom end near the suction. NEEDS IMPROVEMENT!!!.

Sturdy
Overall very pleased with this purchase. It was easy to install and suction is nicely secure (so is the grip on the phone itself). If anything I would like the flexible arm to be just a little less rigid when trying to reposition but that shouldn’t stop you from getting this because it is a good quality product.

Much better than Ivoler
Suction power seems good. I bought the Ivoler product but it broke. This is easy to install and sturdy.

Does not clamp well
I gave this a 3 star because it does not hold the phone well. Plus if you hit a bump the phone pops out and sometimes the whole thing falls down. I added water to the back in order to stick it in the window and this sometimes helps. But the cásele does not hold the phone well and it is hard to open it to release the phone.

LONG NECK great for big dash and windshields. Great Grip.
This is the 3rd Macally windshield mount I have purchased. They are no invincible, but last a long time. The neck is longer than most others. I bought a different one on amazon that has a great suction cup, good mount, but is about an inch shorter. I like the length of the neck. The phone grips work well, and the push button opens the side jaws and clamps down firmly. The only negatives are this: The suction cup is the clear kind, which is susceptible to cold temperatures. In below freezing, -20, it falls off the windshield. The other potential negative is the the rotation of the mount at the cradle. It clicks so it can't be adjusted just a smidge. The other one I got off amazon is a ball mount that you tighten and it can be infinitely rotated, or adjusted. HOWEVER, sometimes size does matter! And the extra length of the goose neck (bout an inch) for my Dodge Charger does make the difference in mount location, and ease of visibility. (more horizontal whereas the shorter one you see the phone, and the neck and cup as it has to go up higher on the windshield. Lastly, the suction cup is also susceptible to UV fade over the years. Doesn't degrade it's suction, but it yellows. Still, excellent value and great quality.

Great product
This product is great , I had ordered one about 1.5 yrs ago and just broke. I ordered the new one now and fits very well for iPhone 7plus with the case , the only thing is the part that holds the phone is made a little cheaper from the former model , the bracket that holds the phone is very thin plastic and feels it might break easy … other then that it’s a great product

BEST Suction Phone holder except for winter time
I love this product. I purchased this product once before because of the 2 bottom grips broke off and one of the soft grip rubber pieces fell off. During the colder/winter months the suction falls off of my windshield regularly. Other than that it works great!

Easy to make videos with phone if you are sitting by a mirror or a window!!
Easy to pop onto the glass window by my desk, then I can aim it wherever, and make a video. Great product and so easy to use. I love it.

Great, but only when it's warm.
This worked great until the cold set in. Once that happened it just wouldn't stick to any surface in the car at all.
