WORKMANSHIP Our gage blocks are manufactured under carefully controlled conditions and inspected by the ASME B89.1.9-2002 standard, allowing for an accuracy of +/- 6 millionth for size under 1" block when used at room temperatures of 68 degrees Fahrenheit (or 20 degrees Celsius). The gage blocks are made of fully seasoned alloy tool steel with hardened to 65 RC to provide resistance to wear, abrasion, and rust. The measuring surface of the gage block are ground and micro-lapped to a mirror finished so the gage block can be wringable. The inspection are conducted in an ISO-9001 certified laboratory with a master block set that is traceable to NIST and each block's deviation are recorded on the NIST traceable calibration form. Mirror Finish The measuring faces (2 sides) are ground and micro lapped to surface roughness of Ra 0.016 while the non measuring face (4 sides) are maintain at Ra 0.63. The mirror finished surface allow the gage block to be easily wringable. Laser Marking Each gage block is laser marked with nominal length and serial number with reference to the calibration certificate.ASME B89.1.9-2002 standardInspection are taken place in a ISO-9001 certified laboratory and each block's measurement is recorded on the NIST traceable certificate, not a ISO17025 long form certificate. Plastic Insert Each block is wrapped in a greasproof paper and placed inside the plastic insert holder to prevent corrosion and abrasion.WHAT'S INCLUDED - Calibration certificate traceable to the N.I.S.T. - 9 blocks: .1001-.1009" in .0001" steps - 9 Blocks: .101-.109" in .001" Steps - 9 Blocks: .110-.190" in .010" steps - 4 Blocks: .100-.500" in .100" steps - 4 Blocks: 0.050, 1.000, 2.000, 4.000"

Remarkable perfection for a ridculously low price
I read about Jo-blocks in Simon Winchester's recent book, "The Perfectionists." He writes about them in the prologue. I just had to have them. I think mostly I purchased them because 15-20 years ago a set not as good as these would cost north of a few thousand dollars and maybe more. Today - they cost less than $100, all because of the things outlined in Winchester's book. However, the embarrassing thing is, other than ensuring my digital calipers are spot on, I can think of no other uses for these as yet. I'm not a machinist and don't have tools (other than my digital calipers), that need anywhere near this level of calibration. But they are just so wonderful and perfect, I can't help taking them out and just looking at them. If you know of any other good uses for them, I'd love to hear about it.

Great Customer Service! And for less than a C-note, they're WAY more accurate than I'll ever need.
The case for my set was damaged in shipping but Shars / Discount Machine Shop sent me a replacement case as soon as I contacted them about it.I'm confident that I'll be buying from Shars again - and probably sooner rather than later! As to the accuracy/precision of the gauge blocks, all I can say is that I'd need a climate-controlled labratory clean room full of very expensive equipment with which to test them.LOL, even the least of these "economy" gauge blocks are only a few millionths off of specified thickness. According to the deviation sheet that came with the set, they average less than 20 millionths of an inch from specified thickness - ~50× more precise than my next best instrument - a Mitotuyo .0001" dial indicator. I plan to use these blocks to check all the other instruments in my home shop for the rest of my life. Barring accidents or neglect, they'll be just as good for some future owner a hundred years from now.

WOODWORKERS unite use Machinist tools
I want to start off by saying that I am not a machinist. I'm a retired Electronics Technician. Having said that, I AM a nerd for accuracy. I bought this set and a needle gauge, for WOODWORKING. Setting the height of a saw blade, Dado stack, depth of cut on a router fence, calibration of my Incra LS fence, which is accurate to 1000th of an inch, still needs to be set to (0) absolute zero.

Accurate and Well Made
Starting with the box; it is well made and does not cause aggravation. The outside is a durable laminated wood. Inside where the gauge blocks rest is a hard plastic tray that will outlast a wooden one that some sets come in. Each block is clearly and neatly separated by size. The blocks came with an oil paper resting over the top rather than each one being individually wrapped, so they are ready to use. Included is an NIST test report. The blocks fall within grade, so you are certainly getting what you pay for.

unclear labeling
i just go this a few days ago and it is great, the only complaint I have is with the markings of the blocks, some blocks were mechanically engraved and they're hard to read while others were marked with a laser giving a nice clear text. while still others look like they were marked with a laser but weren't close enough to give a nice clear making or were already greased and the grease keep the laser energy from making a clear marking.so it looks like I am going to have to remark 30 or so blocks in order to make them readablethat is why I'm going with a 2 star review

Share economy gage blocks
My gage blocks arrived on time and packing was great. The wood box and gages did not get damaged as some wrote. Accuracy was great for a hobbyists.

lpressboard box is horribly weak considering the weight inside.
Did not use product. Box it came in was completely destroyed and full of small bugs like termites or something. They were in the bag the box was in with the cardboard sleeve around it. Sleeve looked okay, ooened bag and box fell apart spilling gauge blocks everywhere. Returning item
