real leather that is high quality especially for the price. the paper is good as well and easy to refill if thats what you plan to do. if you want a journal that is nice to your wallet and nice to use this is your best bet.

I spent ages looking for a journal ready for y wife's 70th birthday in three months' time. I was going to include photos from our lives, poems I'd written especially for her, and anything else I could think of.Being a gift I felt safe enough should my wife answer the door if I was not there, and that is what happened. It arrived in a fully see-through clear hard plastic packet with a label stuck on it. You didn't need x-ray vision you could see exactly what it was as my wife answered the door my secret gift was blown to kingdom come.So BE WARNED if you are buying it as a gift and the person lives with you YOU NEED to answer the door and squirrel it away.Superb item but my surprise is over. Back to thinking :(

The little dangle jingle things are annoying as there cheep but the book is good

I bought this as a gift for a friend. I liked the vibrant colour and the fact it's refillable.It's obvious it's not leather (not that it proclaims to be) but it would have been nice for it not to smell quite so plastic. (This does dissipate). Aside from this, it is decent and made well and I liked the lacing with steampunk style and a very nice gift for the money.
