I'm a retired teacher of geography wherein my 7th graders were to bring to my classes a big box of crayons, a ruler, pencils, ink pens while I provided the copy paper. The textbook covered the flags of the countries along with maps of we studied with its essential information . Each student was to draw, color maps of the nations that we covered with each country's information on it. The maps drawn and colored (water always blue.) I listed on the blackboard the geographical information, i.e., bodies of waterways, mountains, terrain, they were to depict correctively on their maps. Generally students would turn in a packet as we studied each nation. And did we have fun. My father worked for the State Department and his travels had always intrigued me and was a source of additional perspective. Occasionally when my back was turned a boy might spin a crayon across the room at another boy depicting in their minds surely international warfare.?Teachers had to have a sense of humor while giving that student an extra chore to do, The girls generally snitched on the miscreants.
