Shielded thermocouples need something on one end to ground to, and these metal housings enable it. Pull the shielded wires through the screw holes that hold the two housings together and clamp them with the screws. When you use the longer screws into metal standoffs that creates a grounded path for the shields.

solid build, but flare a bit more than I expected at the cable end. Some DB-25 ports are too close together for these hoods to stack.

Genuine AMP USA. The hole was small for my 25 pair cable so I had to forego the grommet. Had to add an auxiliary power cord so drilled a hole (pix). More room inside than some others but tight with all those wires.

Not the best. The location of the screws to hold the sides together is a bad spot. Really makes you squeeze the wires together so that they don't get pinched.
