Hi, Thank you for your interest in our panels! The fiberglass is completely covered in the front and sides, the back is exposed. When placed against a wall, the level of contamination is very minimal, but if you want to be extra careful, an option is to add a fabric to the back of the panel in between the frame and the fiberglass. Q: How many panels to cut down everyday noise in 44x20 living room/kitchen w hardwood floors? Better on walls or ceiling?

Q: Would it be easy to hang this horizontally with the two z-brackets provided ?

I believe the process would be the same as hanging them vertically.
