I have the 4200 psi washer. Will this thing explode and cause a tsunami or can i just dial it down and bit an use it just fine?

Pressure gauge and pressure unloader knob to dial down the pressure it will work fine. If you only turn the engine speed down it may not be enough to drop the pressure low enough. Also the static pressure when you open the trigger may be quite large even though you are running less pressure when operating. For example I’ll dial down my bigger unit to 3200 psi delivering water but the gauge will read 5000+ psi when I close the gun and that has cracked the steel attachment pivot on two 10” surface units rated at 3200 when I opened the flow. You can’t open k lbs of pressure slowly.

what is the brush material, wire or softer? I need wire or very stiff bristles.

Very stiff bristles, but that really doesn't matter as it doesn't come into contact with the surface being cleaned. Its the 2 nozzles rotating that does the job.

Will this unit work with a 2800 psi Troy Bilt gas power washer?

I'm not sure about a 2800 PSI but mine is a 3750 PSI and it struggled to work and second day the nozzle broke off of it so I neither have to tap it to get it out wasn't worth the money for me

Not recommended, the components of the surface cleaner are only rated to 3600 psi. You may want to look into Simpson's Surface Cleaner 80182 rated at 4500 psi.
