Excellent for pet watching!
I use this to make sure our dog goes out the doggy door in the basement when it's raining instead of on the basement floor. It works well but it does have a line across the screen and always moves to the bottem the whole time you have it on. So the picture isn't as clear but it does the job and that's all I needed. The old one started conking out and I'd have to reset it every few days (turn power off and then on on the camera downstairs - which started really defeating the purpose). The picture was much more clear without interference and I believe the old one was the same name as the new one, Astak (the old camera doesn't have a name on it anywhere). Anyway, I cought her going in the basement (which is, I'm told, what you have to do to be able to change that behavior) and told her to go outside. She did and we've had no more accidents when it's raining. Thanks to Astak.

Easily best deal for the $
I have seen this same baby monitor elsewhere on the internet for $180. Maybe then you would have a right to complain about certain things. Here's my cut...I had static and interference on channel 1 but then switched to channel 2 on both the camera and monitor and the picture was clear and quiet.I can control the camera easily within the next room or about 60ft away if outdoors. The camera smoothly and quietly pans up and down and around via the remote. The remote takes 4 AAA batteries when not using the AC plug so don't expect it to last very long, especially since you are probably using rechargeables. That just how AAA batteries are.You get an ear plug for listening privately and a jack and cable for connecting the remote to any size TV or monitor to view things in a big way. The camera base can also be tripod mounted.Other uses can be to watch your property, business or kids since you can easily move your view as needed.

Works well, but battery hungry
This monitor works well and helps me keep an eye on our 2 year old twins. That is, as long as you use the included AC adapter. It uses 4 AAA batteries when unplugged, and really eats them up in a short time. Also, I returned the first unit I received, because when unplugged, if you left it on for more than a couple of minutes, the back would get very hot. I found that it was the batteries that were getting hot and radiating through the back plate. Then, the screen would suddenly go crazy and it would emit a loud buzzing sound. Now I use the 2nd unit I recieved only when I want to do a quick check of their room. So basically, I have to have a standard sound-based monitor, and if I hear something, I can turn this one on and see what is going on.

Pretty good but sensitive to interference
I like this camera and use it to watch my baby (dog) at night. It's a good deal, and I would recommend it with these two warnings:If you want to use it for monitoring sound also, you may find the feedback/interference annoying. It emits buzzing and popping sounds that make it hard for me to sleep, so I have to keep the volume all the way down. If I were using it during waking hours, such as doing chores or other stuff around the house I don't think it would bother me. (I do have a lot of wireless traffic in my home - a wifi router (old netgear), cordless phones (newer Dect6), and a windows mobile phone that synchronizes every 10 minutes.)The range is also not that great. Its limit seems to be about 20 or 30 feet before the pan/tilt begins to get unresponsive and the static starts to get very significant. This is inside the house, so passing through walls and floor.

BabyCam
I am so glad that I ordered this Baby Camera for my grandson! His parents have been able to see him do things they otherwise would have never seen, like this time when he hoisted his leg up on the top of the crib, trying to get out. They were able to let the bed down a notch so he wouldn't tumble out of his crib! I highly recommend this camera to everyone! The price was terrific and the quality of the picture is magnificent. My apologies for getting this review out so late....

Do Not Buy
Absolute garbage. First: the unit only works when plugged into the wall. Trying to use with the battery option for the monitor results in a loss of signal and nothing but static. Before you say this has something to do with range, I live in a sub 2000 sq ft house and the monitor is never more than a total of 30 ft or one wall away from the camera. Second, the camera on/off button on the monitor does not work. The only way to use the monitor with the screen off is to turn the unit off. This is not helpful when you want an audio only product with the option to just check the video. Finally, the battery lift of the unit is hard to determine because it fails so quickly when not plugged into the wall. All in all, this is a terrible product and I desperately want my money back. Unfortunately, I bought this well before my daughter was born and did not open until after the 30 day period had expired. I wish I had because I knew within one night that this product was not going to work. Now I am off to Target to overpay for another monitor and stuck with the cost of this one. Ugh.

Be cautious!
We are on our second Astak monitor. The camera works well in both light and dark rooms. The problem we have had is with the handheld monitor. The first one broke after a year. We were happy with it and new part of its failure was our dropping it a few times. This new one however has not been dropped and is a piece of junk. The screen has pulled away from the casing inside and now sits at an angle. We can still get picture but there is much more static. There is no way that I can find to open the receiver and try to fix it without busting it. If you are thinking of buying this device be cautious with the handheld monitor. Also the range is not nearly what it claims to be. We get about 50ft before we lose picture.

Multiple uses.....
This is really a great unit for much more than a baby monitor (for which it would be excellent)....Not having to monitor children, it's great for outdoor surveillance, checking on other rooms in the home etc...And nite-time surveillance is superb as the nite vision requires so little light....a side light, street light etc. is all that's needed for excellent illumination...The left/right, up/down feature is also top-notch. The only regret is that there is NO ZOOM feature...For a real surprise, try plugging into a big-screen TV (plug is provided)....WOW !! enjoy..... :-)
