Works with 853D… but only with some rework
As stated in the sellers listing, this does not work with the original 853D. It is because the original has a direct wired hot air gun. This unit has an 8 pin male plug that is apparently proprietary (at least I couldn’t find a female chassis mounted connector that would work). If you have one of these rework stations, then you should be good enough to remove the heating element and replace it. Took me about 20 minutes to do. If someone knows where to purchase this 8 pin connector, you could simply modify your existing 853D rework station. And yes, you can buy just the heating element, but for the dollar more this cost me, I got a new reed switch and blower fan. Totally worth it. Hope this helps someone.

DOES work, but had to change the cable.
The hot air gun works fine... now. It's definitely the same hot air gun that came with my soldering station, model numbers match exactly, but the plug end didn't fit properly into the station. It wouldn't plug in all the way. I had to desolder the cable from my old hot air gun and install it on the new one to get it to work. Cannot recommend.

as good as it gets
This is my second one and the first one has been through very heavy use and has done well. I had a piece break off around the heater shroud form like I said very heavy use. Turned out to be a very minor piece that helped to hole it tightly in the frame so it looks like my first one is still going strong. I honestly don't think I will live long enough to wear them both out. yes it gets very hot. I'm using it currently to run 76 lights on a trailer. I am using PVC tubing and heating and shaping it and also using tons of shrink tubing literally. when I have to break loose a solder joint this quickly does the trick.

Works as it should!
I ordered this but it didn't fit the station that I purchased it for (my fault)... so I modified it to work and it does well!

Doesn't work for the 853D 2A USB
While this product's counterpart are tricky to hook into the 853D 2A USB station this one doesn't work at all. After closer inspection the heat gun that does work is the S118B not the S118A and while it does have the same male plug it does not have the same internal board that connects it to the station. If you plan on getting this for anything else then it may be worth it. The product itself was nicely packaged in a box and sheet along with an overall quite studry build. For people who cant figure out how to hook up the heatgun -->First you want to turn the station off and place the heat gun in the cradel (or side slot) with the nossel pointing towards the sky. Plug in the heat gun and now turn on your station. Turn on the Rework switch and see if the numbers starts to move. You should hear a fan begin to run in the rework gun! If not try these steps a few time with different angle facing upwards. To clear the S-E error ( a sensor error code) or what some see at 5-E, turn the entire station off with the back switch - eventually it will work. each time you want to use the heatgun you have to have it in the holding slot first.
