Fresh and aromatic
This Spanish saffron arrived in a nifty metal tin.Inside were the vibrate red and yellow threads, giving off the very unique aroma of saffron. In addition to appearing to be good quality that was in good condition, mine arrived with a best by date at the end of April 2023, by which point in time I expect it to be long gone. The only sort of odd thing about this saffron is that the label indicates that it is "manufactured" in the US.Well, the trouble with that is saffron is grown, not manufactured. My assumption is this was grown in Spain, then packaged in the US; although, it could technically be a Spanish variety grown in the US.If you don't really care where your saffron is grown, then the origin is neither here nor there; however, since some people seek out saffron specifically because it is: Spanish, Turkish, Iranian, Greek, etc..., I do think the seller could be less ambiguous.Widely considered the most expensive spice in the world (Crocus Sativus does NOT come cheap), this saffron is certainly within the affordable range for the quality, quantity, and type.Personally, I do think using saffron on occasion produces some truly spectacular rice dishes. It is therefore a nice thing to pull out when preparing a special meal meant to impress and this is certainly a fresh and handy offering I would recommend for those looking to add some to their spice cupboard. It would also make a really special gift for any much loved chefs in your life.

Wonderful flavor and beautiful yellow color added to rice
This Spanish added a wonderful saffron flavor and bright yellow color to my rice. Opening the metal tin, I get a blast of hay and wheat scents. Very fresh smelling. It also makes a beautiful golden yellow tea. But I did have a few issues…. The saffron had a duller red color and lots of yellow/orange strings that I have not seen in the other brands I've used. Other brands have a bright red color and no yellow. I'm not sure if the duller, rust color is normal for Spanish saffron. The color didn't seem to affect the taste, so I guess it is good. Another nit is that the tin that this saffron comes in is twice as big than it needs to be. Maybe the saffron threads were just packed down, but it just seems a waste to use a can so much larger than necessary.

It's real!
I use saffron once a year, every year, for Swedish Christmas Saffron buns. This saffron was super fragrant right out of the box, beautiful color on the stems. They gave my Saffron buns that beautiful yellow tint that they should have. It's definitely authentic, high quality saffron. Worth the money!

Seems good
This saffron has a good smell and added a nice flavor to the rice I tried it out with. The spice is packed in a metal tin, which does a good job of protecting it from light and moisture, and the “best by” date is more than a year off. The only concern I have is that it has a fair amount of yellow threads, which means some parts of the saffron that have no value as a spice (they’re tasteless) are included in the mix. This saffron’s price is quite reasonable (for saffron) so I guess that’s to be expected, and again, it worked very well in my recipe.
