Brilliant Story
Like most other reviewers, I found this story thrilling and the mix of sci fi quite nice. There are some mistakes in the book such as referring to the wrong place or character but this was few and far between. It is also good to see that Mar is not invincible and does need the help of friends.Over all I would highly recommend this story if you fancy something new. Can't wait until the next book is out.

An entertaining series
I came across these books by chance, and have thoroughly enjoyed them. They are well written; the prose flows nicely. The usual unedited typos that you get with Kindle editions are there, but not as many as in some. Does no one proof read these digital editions? The characters are well enough drawn to maintain interest. I look forward to the next in the series

Just buy them the whole lot!
I was quite pleasantly surprised by this series as it mixed two genres that I love and did it extremely well. Do yourself a favour and devour the lot - I don't think you will be disappointed. I love the author's corollary in the first book to a well known statement - never thought of it that way.

Fantastic series, a real find, as good as anything by Dave Duncan or Watt-Evans. Great ideas, great characters, great plot.

Read this whole series!!!!
READ THIS BOOK! ! ! !I'll be up front and tell the reading world that I didn't start reading H.J.R until last month. I'm not an aspiring author or anyone famous in the editing industry - so if you are looking for a review that "red pencils" and critiques this story; this isn't it, what I am an avid sci-fi fantasy reader. I was looking for something to read while I had some down time during the holidays and I noticed the "Key to Magic" series. Thinking that I had found a complete series and I could read thru to the ending I bought them all and away I went. I soon finished and then promptly suffered the remorse of "...to be continued..." when I discovered that I was going to have to wait for the next installment. Lucky for me the next book will be available in February; I know this from a rumor going around Amazon, apparently started by the author. The bottom line if you haven't read the "Key to Magic" series put it on your list. It is not only a fun read but engrossing and entertaining. The heroes have and depict true character and villains that you know deserve what's coming, and hope that they'll get it. The basis of the environment the technical structure of magic, everything was a plus in my opinion. I'm against spoilers and I can't do any justice to any tidbit I'd like to comment on so I won't say anything about the stories but simply say: read the books... you won't be sorry.

Of Friends and Follies
In some ways, it is hard to form an opinion of Emperor (The Key to Magic: An Epic Fantasy Series). The reason is that the story is headed in many different directions, and it is hard to determine which event proves important in the grand scheme of things, and which is a red herring. So I decided to dedicate this review to two important concepts in the story: friends and follies.Folly is an important element in Emperor because Mar made a bad decision at the end of the previous book, King. He became overconfident of his abilities, and in this next book the reader is learning the price of his folly. Suffice to say, Mar is not the super, overpowered hero who never gets hurt.Friend is another important element in this book, because the author brings back an old character, an important friend of Mar who plays an important role in the story. Additionally, Mar has to rely on his friends, and loyal subjects to achieve certain objectives, as Mar becomes more secure in his rulership and extends his dominion over other great Cities.Emperor (The Key to Magic: An Epic Fantasy Series) is darker in tone compared to the previous volumes, with more violent acts and descriptions of such. I recommend this volume strictly to adult readers.

Can't get enough.
If your this far into The Key to Magic series I don't feel the need to tell you its incredible, because you already know. The most recent book does not disappoint, there's a rush of emotions and feelings that these books elicit as i'm reading them. Its amazing when an author can really bring out a full spectrum of feelings so clearly through their work. This is fantasy at its best with magic, intrigue, romantic struggles, and mysteries waiting to be discovered.

Still an enjoyable read
Well, I'm a bit disappointed with Mar (or should I call him Mar the roasted) anyone, you either like or don't like, for me he is half and half as a character. The first half of this book was a bit boring for me, the battles I mean "yawn", the second half picked up with the story line and the reason we are all (me anyway) reading this series.Word corrections:familiar but he had could not - hadto half an armlenght the rug - abovepush it forward it immediately - ithe how had - nowAll of he other - thehad in some wise enhanced - somewaysaccede to Lhevati's s proposel - squite cable of fighting their - capableMen were such idiots in that wise - wayIt it's all the same Ifhe rally cry - themore numerous populace a the large - andcontent eat lounging - eatingchildren future - children's

Really good story but needs a better editor and proof reading team.
Negative: The author needs a better editor. Lose not loose. Scarred not scared. There are several "big" words used incorrectly often. The whole time jump is confusing and disruptive to the flow of the book.Positive: Interesting characters including non-essential characters. Good story plot. Unique mix of future - past. Pace is continual. Charcacters don't brood or wallow in regret. There's no socio-political agenda. Enough intrigue without getting too convoluted.
