The seat is 16" from the floor. If you have difficulty getting up it might be useful to know that the arms are sturdy enough to be helpful.

Can the back be removed for embroidery?

No, the back is held to the frame with a non-removable rivet. Perhaps the older models used screws, mine uses rivets.

What is the weight limit for these chairs? Although they seem strong I know that some products like this have limits regarding weight it can hold.

300 lbs... It should say this in the description; at least all the ones I've looked at state the weight limit.
