Is this jar able to withstand heat ? Is anyone brewing their sweet tea directly in the jars?

The container is solid. As long as you add tea into container once it's cooled to room temperature. That's when you add Scoby so as to not harm it. To be clear, I "brew"/boil tea in a separate pot and add to glass container once cooled. Remember, anytime you add a hot solution into a glass container you should expect disaster no matter how solid.

When used with the included lid, is this jar airtight?

Not airtight (i.e. not spill-proof)

What is the best way to wash these cloths?

It is probably best to hand wash them using dish washing liquid. If you want to sterilize your cloth between uses, add vinegar to your washing water or soak in vinegar water after washing. Then rinse well. Becky for Cornucopia Brands
