This is a great, quality microscope for an amazing price. We bought it for coins and it works tremendously. It is very easy to use. It is a great size and is move around as well as easy to store when not in use. We will move it all over the house depending on where were are sitting. It is very stable and holds steady no matter the surface- carpet, wobbily stool, etc.

This is a must have for a homeschool family and every other family who enjoys science. It’s easy for children to use, taking pictures of magnified objects for later comparison is awesome! I have 5 kids my 7 & 9 year olds have used it everyday since Christmas. From looking at rocks and bugs to just paper and dust. It has really given them something to look forward to during our school day. It’s pretty transportable only bummer for us is for the extra side lights it must be plugged in (as far as we can tell anyway). The other thing to know is it does not come with the adapter for AC wall outlet. It’s a USB plug in. For us this wasn’t a big deal, but it maybe to some. One other thing you can examine large objects all at once unless you move the object about. It is made to see an entire object the size of a quarter maybe. Again this isn’t a deal breaker for me; the kids simply slide the object about. But to view a large butterfly all at once this wouldn’t work for you. The magnification quality and the easy of use to magnify and see on the screen is amazing. My 4 year old niece figured out how to use it in a few attempts.

I was debating whether to buy this or a binocular optical microscope. Now, the latter is the best if you can afford it. However, I thought I would give this microscope a try at 1/3 to 1/4 of the price. I had a PCB with many surface mount components to solder, including 0.5mm pitch QFN's. In the end, it did the job and the board worked. However, it was difficult to see exactly what was going on due to the lack of binocular vision and the glare from flux (a clean PCB looked great). Managing the soldering tip without 3D took some patience. However, there are two basic levels of zoom (via the keypad) and the ability to focus VERY close so you can inspect a pin at a time (side angle is the best if there is glare). The focus ring is right up front and easy to use. The side lights are a must, don't get a microscope without them for this type of job. It didn't come with a power adapter, so I had to use a USB adapter I had kicking around. The wiring is a bit obscure, so I attached a picture of how I wired it up. Also, the manual proudly states it is a "counterfeit". LOL. In the end, it was a bit of challenge compared to a binocular optical scope but it can be used for even 0.5mm pitch components (though it is pushing it). I think the best would be to have this scope (because it focuses so close) and a binocular optical one if you plan to do more than one board (to keep your sanity).
