Home-gamer's delight. Great for professionals and weekend warriors alike.
This thing ain't no $200 fluke. But it works all the same.As someone who buys tools like this for occasional use(once a month on average) There is no point in buying the super expensive gear.I have used this to trace a line fro the 7th floor to the 2nd sub basement in a commercial building with no issue.I haven't tested the network test functionality yet, but I only bought this to be a line trace/toner for tracking down and identifying phone and data lines for the most part.100% satisfied with my purchase, would definitely recommend, and would definitely buy again. If you liked this review and it was helpful to you, please consider marking it as helpful and checking out some of my other reviews. If you have any questions at all please ask.

Excellent Tool. Well made, feature packed - perfect for small business or the weekend warrior at home.
In my opinion, you can't get a better testing tool at this $25 price point. And this does so much more than anything priced less, that it's not worth it to save ten bucks and get a cheaper tool. This thing was perfect for a project where I was running nearly a dozen Cat 6 cables through my house, as well as making a bunch of patch cables. The tool was able to detect a short circuit I accidentally created, as well as wires that I didn't get punched down solid enough.I also tested out the toner portion of the tool, and it worked great, making a loud sound when it was near the wire carrying the signal. And it has a sensitivity adjuster that also worked well. And I appreciated the LED light on the end of the toner tool, which is great for identifying wires in corners that don't have the best light.Lastly, I really like that it contains the extra accessory with alligator clips so that you can trace other kinds of wires, not just network wires. To me, that is a huge bonus. My house is from the 60s and the somewhat old fashioned wiring is a bit bizarre. I'm going to have to trace some of it to figure out why my light switches work (or don't work) the way they do, and this thing is going to come in super handy. If you are at all on the fence about which tool to buy, and you don't have (or need) hundreds of dollars for some enterprise grade tool from Fluke networks, which I also have experience with, then buy this for sure. It may not contain the advanced circuitry to rate your cable speed and tell you how good of a signal you are getting, and if it detects a break in a wire it can't tell you how many feet away it is, but most of that is totally unnecessary for home or small business use. At least it can tell you if the wire is broken or disconnected, and you can then go fix it (which 99.9% of the time just means redoing the punches on the patch panel or Keystone jack, because we probably didn't punch it down well enough. The odds that a cable is internally broken are pretty much zero for any decent cable. Only in a manufacturing plant did I ever have a need for the "feet to break" feature on the high end testers, because with all the industrial equipment moving around occasionally someone would cut a wire, which is not usually an issue in homes or small businesses).Lastly, if you have any qualms about quality of construction, don't worry: this thing felt very solid to me. It's all plastic, but seems of good quality and thickness, and the adjustor knobs all felt solid. I really don't have any concerns that it isn't going to hold up for a long time.

Professionally tested and approved.
I work as a professional IT technician for a major government facility. I decided to buy this for my own personal use at home since I didn't want to bring my $1,600 work issued Fluke Network Tester/Toner home with me for personal projects. That would have been an ethically grey area. This worked great for my little home project. At that point I decided that it was well worth the $25 price tag already. However, just to see what this little device is truly capable of I decided to bring it in to work and test it there. I hooked it up to a 9 foot Cat 5e cable which terminated into a wall outlet, then through a long run that was a couple of hundred feet long, into a IDF room, through a patch panel, then finally into one of two maxed out 48 port switches. And what do you know? This thing picked up on the tone just like that! It was super loud, super clear, and you could EASILY pick up on which cable was carrying the tone No need for headphones or anything. Honestly, my Fluke couldn't have done any better. Obviously the Fluke has TONS more features when it comes to cable testing and what not, but again; $1600 vs $25 that's to be expected.Bottom Line: If you need a basic cable tester and toner/wand kit that punches above it's weight then look no further than this one! Props to Elegiant for a great product!

A great tool for identifying cables and problems.
When I moved into my condo, the coax cables in the wiring closet were not labled so I had no way to identify which coax cable went to each room. Before ordering, I used the trial and error method to determine which cables needed to be connected in wiring closet for TVs in each room. With this tool, I was able to label all cables in a matter of a few minutes. Also, I had some RJ45 connections that were not working and this tool allowed me to identify the source of the problem in order to have the connections repaired. This tool save me hours of work as well as more than enough money to pay for the tool Even if I never use again, it has paid for itself!

Lasted 3 Years, perfect for office and residential, not for industrial.
I do small business and residential I.T. work. This tester lasted me almost exactly 3 years before failing on pin 6 of the RJ45. No matter what cable I plug in pin 6 no longer functions. Used it hundreds if not thousands of times over the last 3 years and probably just wore out the pin in the jack from use. Yes it can be used professionally as a quick tester but is not a substitute for more expensive digital cable testers that have industrial features. The line sniffer does work for small runs. The farther away from the signal you get there is significant drop in the sniffers ability to detect the signal, that's to be expected with a small tool like this. The probe/sniffer doesn't work well at long runs, you'll need an expensive tester to do TDR tests of long runs, there is no substitute for an expensive TDR tool. This tester is great for small runs like small office buildings or houses. Everyone in I.T. that has expensive and heavy digital TDR testers still end up getting something like this because it's lightweight and super quick to use. Right tool for the right job. I will be purchasing this again today as a replacement because it served me well for years.

Works with Enterprise Network switches and PoE flawlessly
Purchased privately to provide enterprise level network support. I had three objectives in selecting this equipment,1. Trace network cables - The probe is loud, and tracing the cable is quite simple, and I have not needed to use the supplied ear buds in a normal networking room. I was easily able to isolate which port and or patch cord using the "scan" and probe.2. Prove patch cords and network drops - You will see that I created an "open" and was able to prove a fault quite easily that showed an open on the White-Orange pair (one wire cut). A co-worker tested a drop to find that the end had been incorrectly wired out of order. It displayed as an out of sequence cascade and made it a simple task of correcting the jack to match the correct colour code for T568A.3. Test for PoE connection to the switch. When Power over Ethernet is present, the top two lights flash repeatedly when the toner/sender is plugged in.I'm very pleased with the purchase, although I think they could have included a bag to hold the tools, I grabbed an old make up bag to store and transport the tool.I would recommend this purchase to any IT professional looking for an inexpensive tool for network troubleshooting.

Great Wire Tracker
This product is great for home use as well as projects that need cable testings. I used this product to see if I am able to locate wires in a circuit. There are so many different functions you can do using this wire tracker that I have not even explored yet, but I will soon and so far it has been going great and I am excited to continue on learning new features of this product. I also really like using the light. Sometimes, when I am using this in my basement, I cannot get enough light to see all the wires, so the second I use the light button, the wires become more visible. Overall, great wire tracker to have.

Quick and efficient tool for diagnosing ethernet connectivity and problems.
Worked great, easy to set up and use. I have lots of old CATx cable wiring in my apartment, which I've been trying to reconfigure and use with updated hardware. Worked a treat and got the cable connections and connection testing sorted out in no-time with a minimum of pain. I've not tried the other functions, just this one, but I'm delighted with the product for my purpose at least. Please note - batteries are NOT supplied, common these days due to safety regulations, so if you buy this please buy a couple of PP3 9V batteries locally first, so you'll be all ready to go when it arrives.

Works well, good features for the price
Works well, was able to use it to find out where the wires to an overhead light were hidden in a wall unattached to any light switches. Verified some ethernet cords as well, just to try it out. Good range for scanning, nice loud adjustable sound, helpful little light to see what you’re poking at on the probe. Instruction manual is a little sparse, but there are only a few dial settings on the device and two on the probe, it’s easy enough to try them all until you get where you’re looking to go.
