Q: So i broke the 2 peices apart and where the spring is i noticed oil like gel on the spring that made the brush open and close is that oil safe ?

The oil is probably used so the springs don’t rust or stop working well. It’s probably the same type of oil used in salon scissors and clippers.

Q: How does this differ from using a regular wide tooth or detangiling comb while flat ironing?

It firmly secures each strand you are flat ironing between the comb and the holder. When I use a regular comb it is not controllable and this works so much better.

Q: Can this be used for men?

My hairstylist used it to grab a little bit of hair at a time to smooth it out before she straightened my hair with a flat iron. So it's for anyone who has hair long enough to smooth out.
