Q: What is the diameter of the lower bulb?

I’m sorry I can’t answer your question. The lower bulb cracked spontaneously and I returned the entire set. I would advise not buying this item. Although it is cheaper than the competitors it is poor quality. Buy the more expensive Yama set instead. I did.

Q: The instructions don't show proper assembly of burner. Is the metal cap used while the burner is burning or used to snuff the flame on the burner?

Metal cap is for putting off the flame. Need to do it swiftly.

Q: What to I use in the burner? A candle?

You can use clean burning denatured alcohol, which can be found at hardware store.
