The temperature knob gets extremely hot during cooking. Is this normal?

I find that the temperature knob gets quite warm also, but doesn't seem to do any harm.

This is a great appliance and it controls temperature in a wide range of degrees. You can certainly simmer foods in it. As with every electric skillet, you will notice that the element heats up to reach temperature then turns off until it has to regain the set temperature. This is true even of electric ovens so don't be put off by that because overall, the food will cook evenly. I do casseroles, keep food warm and even fry in mine.
