Good story teller
The Doc's stories left me wanting more! I was hooked from the first page. Can't wait for the next book.

Almost as Enjoyable as James Herriot
I’ve read many vet books but this is the first that approaches the standard established by James Herriot, the famous English vet of Yorkshire.

A Detailed Memoir
Dr. Gross details his adventures 50 years ago as a young vet in his first job. He and his wife moved to Montana, newly married and inexperienced in life, so that Dr. Gross could take his first job under old-timer Dr. Schultz. The practice was built in a small town far from any big city. Dr. Gross finds himself becoming both a small and large animal expert as he tackles challenges of small town practice daily. The book follows him through his tenure on this first job. It's interesting to read about veterinary practices in the 1960's and compare how far veterinary medicine has come. Dr. Gross explains many of his techniques in great detail and offers commentary on some things that have changed the most. Transitions are a bit rough sometimes which takes away from the flow of the story, and the dialogue is not very organic. But I enjoyed reading about Dr. Gross and his wife's exploits in rural Montana in times past.

Introduction to Vet Practice in the West
This was so interesting. Though I have little background in veterinary practice, I have had several pets and experience around ranch animals. I’ve already shared some of the stories with kids and friends. I enjoyed it very much and would love to read more. Would be great with photos or art. Thank you!

Talented Man
This is a well written book by a brilliant and interesting man. However, there is a statement on the copyright page that says that the book is "seriously fictionalized". Knowing that made the book much less enjoyable. Animals Don't Blush is supposed to cover the year the author left vet school, got married, and worked for a private practice. I was left wondering when the events happened and how long Dr. Gross actually did stay at that practice in Wyoming? Was his boss's wife really as bad as she is portrayed? Could she really have ruined a practice so quickly that employed four full time people and that local pet owners and farmers depended on?The animal stories are interesting and Doctor Gross does seem to do his very best to help and save animals. Whether or not he has any feeling for them other than professional I couldn't tell. What is clear is that it was a hard life for the family of a vet and that he spent a lot of time dirty.

Interesting read
I found the book interesting but a bit wordy at times. His knowledge and expertise were obvious and the most interesting aspects of the book were his descriptions of what they did at the time versus what goes on currently in veterinary medicine. Well written. I enjoyed the fact that he seemed to be a caring doctor in regards to taking care of all the variety of animals both large and small.

Meeting the demands of veterinary practice in Montana!
This is an interesting book about a vet's first years in a practice in Montana. Not only is he a new vet but he and hiswife are Jewish so the story makes some interesting observations culturally.Dr. Gross seems to be an excellent vet but there's a bit too much detail in some of his descriptions of vet operations!!I loved the Dr. Herriot series many years ago so I read a lot of vet and animal books. I recommend it but it's not a page turner!

Decent book about veterinarians
The positives: one learns about the positives and negatives about veterinary medicine itself, about good and bad customers, and about the need for compassion and honesty on the part of the doctor. The negatives: the author goes into way too much detail about each procedure. And about everything. While I learned a lot as he explained in detail each procedure, I was very bored reading all these specifics. It got to be too much. And then the book ended...no wrapping things up...it just ended.

Prepare to be transported!
Move over, James Herriot! Make way for Dr. Gross! This is an enchanting read. I love that it is decent enough for my family to read, as well as being entertaining. Dr. Gross weaves an interesting tale about his four legged clients and you can ride along and be there as he wraps you up in his words. He's talented at explaining this clearly and describing the situation just as if you were present. An enjoyable way to pass the hours on a road trip !
