A satisfying story of life changes.
A story of a middle aged woman who is happy in her life and work. She wins a lottery and she pays off her bills and mortgage. Her husband decides they should take a ‘Gap Year’ from work. He has always wanted to travel and she can’t travel far because of her fears of flying and going on the water. He is off to travel the world and she takes the Chunnel to France to volunteer at a retreat. It becomes a time of learning and reflection for her. So many of the woman’s experiences resonated with me and it was a very satisfying read. The author tied up all loose ends and left this reader feeling better. Thanks Lucy/Linn.

Holiday romance
When her husband Aiden suggests a year apart to go touring, Fern is shocked. She doesn't like flying so she goes online and finds a painting course and books it in. Aiden takes a female friend and Fern is becoming enamoured with her tutor. What happens when they finally go home? Can they rekindle their love or is there secrets? Lovely read

Summer in Providence
Very enjoyable indeed. So many different lives with individual stories of their own. After reading this I know that you just never know what your life will be and don't even say that you do. Good read.

This is not about Provence
I was hoping for a little more about Provence, but the place is incidental to the story. It's actually a rather fantasized soap opera. The main character is portrayed as a saint, but is more a codependent controller who is unhappy when members of her family choose to live their own lives. She is the typical big sister that believes it's her duty in life to save the rest of us from our "stupid" decisions. There are so many books being written in which a successful-but-overworked woman leaves it all behind to become a painter or writer that it's become an overused theme. Very unrealistic.

Amazing book
I started this book thinking that it was just one of those usual Romance books about skomeone going to another country. However I was very pleasantly surprised to be immersed in an atypical story with so much heart. The main character Fern, is well worth spending several hours as she goes thru her journey. Loved the book.

A Classic Chaste Romance
This is the second book by Coleman that I’ve read. I choose it because I had read some heavy novels and wanted something light and fluffy. It met that criteria. Coleman isn’t my favourite romantic author, but she is very capable.Three stars

No Skipped Chapters
The first book I’ve read in a long time that I read entirely from page one. No skipping the middle chapters. Ms Coleman is an evocative author. This story will stay with me a long time. I plan to read all her books.

Most enjoyable
What a lot happening. Brilliantly written. Loved where a short synopsis of what was happening in there lives when the story ended.

Simply lovely.
It’s always difficult for me to write reviews, I want to gush about certain elements of books but at the same time don’t want to spoil the enjoyment for anyone reading my reviews.I really enjoyed this book, I’d not long before read a different book which I absolutely loved and was finding it incredibly difficult to get into another one. I’d start one, couldn’t get in to it and push it aside. This book gave me back my reading mojo.Aiden and Fern, a young married couple come into an unexpected windfall. It had long been Aiden’s dream to travel and maybe do some charity work, yet Fern, afraid of flying had always been reluctant.Aiden decides that the best thing to do is each take a year out of life and follow their dreams. While he is travelling around the world, Fern takes herself off to a retreat in France to get in touch with her artistic side. There is so much more I want to say about this book but I don’t want to spoil the plot or give anything away. Suffice is it to say, the storyline of this book is very different and I absolutely loved how it all turns out for Fern and Aiden. It’s a truly great book with fantastic writing, likeable, believable characters and a bittersweet yet perfect ending.

A great story
I chose this to read as an alternative to my usual crime ones as I needed something calm and happy. I write this with tears rolling down my face! It was indeed a journey an easy read but says so much. In these troubled times of the moment (covid19) I found it a great escape. I rather wish it really was available and I could book in.

Great summer read
Just finished Lucy Coleman’s ‘Summer in Provence’. Having been deprived, like so many others, of my summer away in the sunshine, reading Lucy’s book about gorgeous Provence certainly helped make up for not going away in reality. I was transported to a fabulous chateau with Nico in charge of mentoring Fern while she considers her marriage to Aiden who has decided he wants a gap year in Australia. Interesting to know, in a 7-year marriage, whether the two involved can survive a year apart in totally different places.Well thought out and fleshed out characters, beautifully written and an interesting ending. Great stuff!!
