A bit vague at times, but a good start for people like me, wanting to try growing mushrooms at home. Basic instructions very simple to follow. I will move to more advanced books later, this little book is adequate for the moment.

Full disclosure: I don't know much of anything useful regarding mushroom growing, except that I think it's an amazing skill. Growing Mushrooms for Beginners is my new favorite book because I don't know what I'm doing and Sarah makes it seem all so doable. The book is formatted well and takes a newbie like me from point to point without being overwhelming.There are mushroom variety profiles and different ways of growing outlined - like on logs, in straw or sawdust, and even on toilet paper! There's even a Mason jar twist that took me by surprise - all these different options made me feel like I really CAN grow my own mushrooms.The troubleshooting advice alone makes the book worth the purchase price, in my opinion. Then there's the processing section which taught me how to harvest, preserve and use my mushrooms in all different ways. The robust recipe section satisfied my culinary obsession with the deliciousness of mushrooms. For such a modestly sized book, it's full of information!My favorite quote from the book, "Mushrooms can be houseplants; they just look different. And they taste delicious." Love this perspective! I really think I can start growing my own mushrooms now.Some reviewers have noted that this is a book for novices and have dinged the author a bit for it in their review but it says right in the title that this is a book for beginners. I'm not ready for the weightier books on this topic - too much of a good thing at this point in my mushroom growing journey. So glad I have Growing Mushrooms for Beginner's in my library now!FYI, this book was sent to me free of charge so that I might share my review of it with other readers. This is not way influenced my review - these are the actual thoughts that I thunk! :)
