I picked up the Klein Tools VDV526-200 LAN Scout Jr. 2 to test my CAT6 outdoor runs and it works great. Super simple to use – just plug in both ends and it quickly checks continuity, wiring configuration, and detects shorts or miswires. It identified a couple of bad terminations on my long cable runs in seconds, saving me tons of troubleshooting time. I originally bought a much cheaper cable tester thinking I was saving money. In hindsight, that was a mistake. The tester technically worked, but I never had much confidence in the results, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of testing cables in the first place. I eventually bought this Klein tester, and the difference was obvious. It just works. The results are easy to understand, and I don't find myself second-guessing whether the tester is right or wrong. The documentation deserves a special callout. It's clear, well written, and actually explains what the different results mean. That's surprisingly rare these days and made troubleshooting much easier. I've used it while tracking down Ethernet wiring issues around the house, and it's been reliable every time. It gave me confidence that when it reported a problem, the problem was actually in the cable and not in the tester. If you're debating between a bargain-basement tester and this one, my advice is to skip the first purchase and buy this from the start. The money saved on a cheaper unit wasn't worth the frustration.

I bought this to help with testing network drops I'm installing during a home renovation. Right after I got it, one of our wifi apps failed. I used this to find known-good cables and from there, narros it down to a bad keystone jack. A simple swap out and quick punch down and we were back up and running. I would have spent a lot more time troubleshooting without this - cables are the typical culprit, and without this, I would have been crimping new cables to eliminate that variable. It's not flashy, but it gets the job done.

I originally bought the VDV526-200 for checking ethernet cables I was making. I didn't have any problems with that. It was telling me which of my patch cables were shielded, identified one as a switch cable, and verified that my cables were built correctly. Using the detachable cable terminator, I could also check which cable went to to which wall plate location. When I tried using the tone function to trace cables with the VDV500-123 though, I found that the VDV526-200 didn't have a lot of output. I could identify cables if the probe was touching the cable, but I definitely couldn't trace a cable through a wall. From my measurements, the VDV500-123 only puts out about 1.19V into a single conductor relative to all the other conductors in the cable, or about -8.5dBm into 10kohms. If you want to do tone tracing through walls, I'd try the VDV500-705 or VDV500-063 which both put out about 8dBm of power or about 40x as much as the VDV526-200.

Very helpful on insuring cat cables are correctly wired on vehicle through various components from within cab at headunit.

Not buying the cheap alternatives again. Used them for years but just spent a bunch of time putting new ends on a cable a few times and testing known good vendor made cables only to find out the cheap tester somehow went bad and was saying 5 was bad all the time. This one is simpler to use and faster (no watching a light go through all 8 pinouts) in verifying. Win win.

Troubleshooting ethernet connections is difficult. This makes it slick and easy. I doubt that there is a better one than this Klein.

Test muy completo y con capacidad de sestear tiradas de hasta 80M en Cat6 y 60M en cat5e. Tiene todo lo necesario para la comprobación del cable y el correcto funcionamiento. Indica si existe un fallo de contacto en alguno de los terminados o si se ha colado más de un hilo por 1 solo conducto,también informa de hilos cruzados o de una cable con diferente estándar por lado ( tipo crossover) sin olvidaste de la comodidad de comprobar desde una sola hubicacion el testing status del cada cable en cuestión. Buena herramienta electrónica,ahora esperemos q siga siendo fiable por años.

Tiene toda la calidad de klein Tools. Es pequeño y cómodo de usar. Permite determinar que pares del cable se han abierto, están intercambiados, en corto, o intermitencias de desconexion. Usaba un probador a base de Leds, y el cambio con respecto a este, es la comodidad de poder ver el estado de cada cable individual en base a la numeración como se asigna en el conector rj45, sea como lo estemos visualizando nosotros, un T568A o T568B, o un cable cruzado. El obtenerlo con descuento me dio oportunidad de acceder a una herramienta de diagnóstico de mejor calidad y prestaciones. El empaque impecable, y los tiempos de entrega sin problemas.
