Review: Decorative Art or Heater...BOTH! - This review can also apply to the 6410 model which, according to Lasko Products, only differs in color. Who would have thought you could have made a functional, inexpensive, thermostatically-controlled, heater, attractive? Well Lasko must have, because they've done it. I purchased this heater for my mother who lives in our finished basement (I don't want anyone thinking I have my mom living in an "unfinished" basement, under the stairs, or anything like that). The oscillating feature is nicely integrated in the design as it pivots along the top band of the metal support structure. It has a bright, red, LED that shines through the bottom of the heating grill so you can easily see that the unit is on. It puts out a good amount of heat and is every bit as effective as the DeLonghi units I own in other parts of my house. So, overall, I'm happy with it. Let me lay out the Pros and Cons for you. Pros: - Attractive crackle surface along the skin of the unit. - Heavy base provides sturdy support to keep the unit from tipping. - Nice size makes it easily unobtrusive. - Very quiet. - Ready to use right out of the box. Cons: - Remote is a bit difficult use. It has icons only which are rubber-lifted and all black. They are a bit difficult to see unless you tilt the remote in the light to get contrast from the raised surface. - Thermostat is restricted to five-degree increments. My other DeLonghi units allow full-degree adjustment. - No tip-turn-off feature if you tend to get a bit rowdy in your heated room. We have only had the unit for about a week. As time goes by, I will provide any additional information that I feel is relevant to this review. I certainly recommend this product. If this review was helpful to you, please say so. Thanks! UPDATE: I just got off the phone with LaskoProducts who told me that this particular heater does not have a tip shut-off feature. They told me that if the unit were to tip, it would most likely overheat and then the thermal protection would kick in. I don't think I would want to count on the thermal overload protection to protect from a tip-over. If I just HAD to have this heater, I would probably just strap one of the bracket legs to a stationary object or clamp it to the floor. It's pretty stable but it's certainly not "untippable." I wanted to see how the heater would respond if it tipped over so I tipped it, last night. It did not turn off. It just laid there like a tipped-over R2-D2, rotating back and forth. I didn't wait around to see if it would overheat and shut off. I have two other oscillating heaters in my home in my kid's bedrooms that are made by DeLonghi and they have the tip-over shut-off feature. As a matter of fact, you can't even pick them up without them shutting off. I bought them a few years ago at Costco but couldn't find an identical product when I bought the decorative heater from desertcart.com. If tipping is not your concern, this is still a great heater.
Review: My objectives when I purchased it were to provide a cost effective method for heating this room which would be pretty much balan - I purchased my Lasko 6435 heater about 2 years ago to provide heat to a 12' x 14' room that I spend quite a bit of time in. It also allows me to lower the overall heat of the house but keep this room at 70 degrees in the winter time which is about 6 months long where I live. My objectives when I purchased it were to provide a cost effective method for heating this room which would be pretty much balanced out by lowering my house thermostat by a few degrees. Thus effectively getting comfortable living just for the minimal cost of the heater and no to very little extra cost in my energy bill. Since I am on a pretty fixed budget I thought this would be a good investment to make. Results : I use the Lasko on High with a setting of 70 degrees and it is on 24 x 7 in the winter. For temperature control with 70 degrees set I find the temp runs between 72 - 68 degrees. Thus it turns on at 68 and runs until the room is 72 degrees. It takes between 10 - 15 minutes for each cycle. Thus on a daily basis it runs about 4 - 6 hours a day. It is rated at 1500 watts for high but I believe based on what I did in research that that high rating is closer to 1300 watts. Energy Analysis - Given that it runs 4 - 6 hours per day at 1300 watts my costs per month are approximately as follows. 6 - 9kw's per day x 30 days or 180 - 270 kw's per month. My energy cost is about .11 per kw + .02 for distribution or .13 per kw. So based on this my monthly cost runs between - $23.40 to $35.10 or so about a $1 a day. Recommendation - This product runs quiet and in my opinion very efficiently. It meets the needs that I purchased the Lasko for and have had no service problems at all with the unit. I feel good using this method to use the same amount of power but be more comfortable. Pros - * Energy Efficient ( note this is for radiant heat for a small space as a supplement to an HVAC system ) * Quiet and I really like the oscillator function .. I think it is effective in heating the area * Looks much nicer than a typical space heater Cons - * I really don't think I needed to pay for the remote - I never use it but for some it may be nice I hope this review is helpful .. if it is please let me know.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is unit energy efficient**
A: Pauline - I'm an Energy Conservation Engineer. Electric heaters in general are 100% efficient. In other words, 100% of the power that goes into it is converted to heat - except for what it takes to power the fan and the oscillation of the unit. However, fans like this use an extremely small amount of power for the fan and oscillation. If you use this to reduce the amount of heating from your central heating unit (furnace), then it's extremely "efficient" and can save you a lot of money. A natural gas burning furnace is usually only 80% to 90% efficient. A good portion of heat goes out the roof through the flue pipe (exhausting the products of combustion which can be dangerous). Natural gas is usually cheaper than electricity per unit of heat, however, so many people think gas heat is more efficient than electric heat, but it's the opposite. By now, you're probably sorry you asked... :o)

**Q: Durability: will it stand up to limited but daily use for six months or longer without the heating element burning out?**
A: I have used it almost every night for about 12 hours per day, every day, at the highest heat setting and with the oscillation motor running for over 5 years. It started to make a humming whine a couple days ago, but still functioned normally otherwise.

I just took the back cover off for the first time (it's held on by 5 torx screws and two clear plastic stickers) and used a tiny hose/brush attachment on my handheld vacuum (the kind I usually use to clean electronics, like keyboards) and pair of long, bent-tip tweezers (used to apply individual fake eyelashes or thread overlock sewing machines) to clean out all the dust and fur from inside the heater. Especially reach inside the cylindrical fan at the center from the top and bottom cups to pick the clumps out and vacuum brush the curved fins. Be careful not to remove all the grease on the bottom plate, or if you do have to wipe some off to get the dust, you can replace it with your own, fresh machine grease.

I put the cover back on and plugged it in. Now, it works like it was brand new, no strange noises, and it's putting out a lot more heat and pushing it further around the room like it used to when it was brand new.

I have bought two other space heaters since I bought this one. The Vornado literally melted itself with a few months and the Crane had to be rewired after a couple months, is weak, has no tipover protection, and can only heat a small closet or bathroom. This Lasko is the best space heater I have ever owned or used I would highly recommend it to anyone.

**Q: Approx how many sq feet is it best used to heat?**
A: This heater works well in 100 sq ft above 53 degrees. Below 50 degrees low temperature an additional Lasko heater may be necessary depending on what your insulation and window type that you have. I still love mine.

**Q: Will this shut off if knocked over?**
A: I have the 6410 and on the front of the box, the Tip Over Protection box is NOT checked. But there is supposed to be overheat protection. So, I would think that may mean that if the outlet is blocked, it might then shut off. But I won't risk trying that.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best space heater ever -
*by S***E on September 5, 2024*

I bought this space heater last January and it has been great. It can be confusing at first to use the controls but you'll catch on right away. It starts on higher temps and you have to push the button on the top of the heater to get it to cycle to the lower temps and run on low. I prefer the "gold" color, (which does not have a remote) as they call it, as opposed to the "beige", which is more of a light green and has a remote. I saw this heater on Consumer Reports and it was rated fairly high at $64 - so I found it on Amazon for $58. Then a couple weeks later it went up to $64 or maybe $68 and has remained there until the last week. I really do like this heater - so much so I bought a second one a month ago even tho I don't NEED a second one. I like to have a spare of things that I need and use in case the original one breaks and they are no longer selling that model ... This time I bot an open box one from Amazon for $28!! I was absolutely thrilled because I love this heater. I have run a dog shelter and have run 3 space heaters at a time in their common room (my basement), of all sizes and brand names in the last 10 years so I am quite familiar with space heaters. Of course it is different when you are picking a space heater out that will be around dogs - where you look for tip over safety, stability, even ability to tie a heater so it won't get knocked over and other features. I do know when a heater's thermostat works properly (which is necessary whether in a dog shelter room or whether up in my den with no dogs or children). This is heater is perfect for my den, both in looks and function. The base of this heater is quite stable. I like the style and the fact can oscillate. I recommend this heater.
