Another great read
A very sensitive, personal and credible portrayal of the terrible impact of WW2 on ordinary French people. Seeing events through their day to day lives.

Review of the Alex Kovacs 4 book SERIES
The Alex Kovacs series was an enjoyable read - easy to get on with, with some good characterisations and situations, but nevertheless with a few frustrations for this reader. I've got so used to WW2 thrillers in Europe being written by British writers, that the frequent use of the "motherf....." and "ass" words seemed totally out of place - it's not as if any of the characters was American, and the Brits I know certainly don't use these words. Also the authors French geography needs brushing up on - it's more like 500 miles to the north coast from Lyon, not 200, an easy thing to get right. (SPOILER ALERT) My only gripe in terms of plots and conclusions was Manon - we never did find out what happened to her. Dead or alive?? I was still expecting her to reappear at the very end. Still, small gripes across four books and different countries. Well done Richard Wake.P.S. I've just noticed that the 5th book in the series has been released, so I may get my answer re Manon

A riveting series
Another story in this fast paced, exciting series, based loosely on real situations around the second world war. Believable characters bring the stories to life.

Raw. Brutally direct. Life for those who dare
This was an interesting read. I don’t think the characters moved more than twenty miles in any direction during the entire story, but the scenes are vivid and detailed. There is no moral. No taking sides. That had been done already. A story set of the resistance in France during WWII. But one mans story over a brief span of time. A personal story. Not a war story. Not a love story. One is left with a deep feeling of the brutality and senselessness of it all.

Not his best book
Not this author’s best book.I have read quite a bit of RW’s material and it is always impressive.Having said that, I finished the book, so it gets three stars.

Really authentic
Brings to live the reality of living under occupation and the choices to be made. Do you actively resist or keep your head down?

Interesting
A different view of the war from various European locations. Very good reading. Might there be any follow-ups to come?

great read
This series isn’t the usual hero wins the day - it has honesty, fear, loss, tragedy stupidity and dilemma, it give a small a small sense of the reality of life during WW2.I’m 4 into the series and still enjoying them. Each one is a bit different.

Excellent WW2 historical fiction
Another very good follow-up in the Alex Kovacs series. The story documents the area, culture and environment that existed at the time. It is both educational and entertaining.

The series works
All books in the series held my attention, not an easy thing to accomplish. We should all have the good fortune of having a Leon in our lives.

Worth Reading
Takes you to the time of the German occupation of France and the activities of the resistance. The story is a continuation of earlier Alex Kovak books, which are also very good, the problems and rivalry faced by the resistance groups is very well described. I hope the author has ideas for a final novel in this series.

you will enjoy this book, and the series.
A good, quick read. Keeps you engaged through out. I actually think about the characters during the day! I look forward to their next mission.

Good follow up from the previous books
This saga continues with some dramatic developments which are well paced. However a bit repetitive which could be because life then had an other rhythm. Still a good representation of what France was then when everyone trust very few and always watched their back. Looking forward to the next book. This is not Victor Hugo prose but will keep you on your toes.
