Quite Good
I don't know if it's when I read it or how busy I've been but it definitely kept me pulled in but I could put the book down if I needed. Very good female-written character and refreshingly dynamic male (and female) cast. The plot flowed well. I was very surprised with how it ended but also not mad (as long as they'll be another one) overall I loved how it showed healthy standards and expectations and very well-written steamy scenes

Could have been better
As I’m looking through all these 5 star reviews I really don’t understand why. The book was a good read but all together boring. The book dragged and I feel as though the length of the book could have been cut down significantly. It felt like I was reading the same chapter over and over again. That being said I do like the characters and love that there is a strong female lead even though she does get a bit annoying at times. All together a good read but I hope the second book will be better.

Skin Of The Night Is No Skin Off My Back
TikTok TikTok TikTok… how many times will I allow you to lure me in under false pretenses and then disappoint me. That’s exactly what this book did. I picked it up because I came across this glowing review on TikTok and I just had to have it. But oh how wrong I was. Skin Of The Night is one of the most Tedious books I’ve ever read and it’s all because of the FMC Cara. I despise this woman. I have nothing positive to say about her. The fact that she is a “Feminist” speaks volumes. She is a selfish, immature, cowardly, reckless woman. But don’t get me wrong William is no prize pony. He’s selfish, manipulative, and rude! They make a fine pair. Their story is incredibly cliche and the struggle between them felt incredibly manufactured. I get the feeling the author was shooting for realism with this book but honestly no one in real life would act as poorly as these two did. The fact that they tried to clean it up in the end with these pseudo intellectual conversations is literally insulting. And that ending.. What was that?! Overall I did not enjoy this book. Even the spicy scenes couldn’t save it. 2 stars ⭐️⭐️ and I’m being generous.

Mixed Feelings
Phew. There is a lot to unpack here. First, I LOVE WILL. Okay now that that’s settled. I loved everything about him beginning to end. He felt real and raw at all times. I did not carry the same feelings for Cara. She confused me the entire book and was so hot and cold it sometimes felt like I was getting whiplash.

Very smutty but does seem to have much of a plot.
I liked it but it doesnt really hit the spot. The description says she is focused on her studies and such but it doesn't seem that way. PLOT: MC wants to have sex with her roommates brother. The end.

The male lead was overbearing
I honestly excited to read a first because it was recommended to me but I absolutely did not like this book at all really. I’m not going to lie the author has a way with words but honestly this book kinda just made me annoyed. The female lead Cara has been expressed how she did not want a relationship and that she wanted space, boundaries, and respect all things that wasn’t even close to met with the male lead. The male lead William was quite toxic in my opinion and while Cara did have some moments that wasn’t right William was honestly just overbearing . William’s need to just invade and over step boundaries was just annoying and honestly wasn’t right to me. Overall I just didn’t like this book cause of the male lead specifically and how he just was doing to much because of his bruised ego of getting rejected for Cara’s specific reasons

I’m pretty sure this was written by Mark Zuckerberg
Look, I love a slow burn. So that is what this has going for it— it’s a slow burn. But you know why I like that brand of romance? Because the author often takes time to build chemistry between people before it boils over in a scene. This didn’t have that. Their chemistry “exists” in a tell-not-show fashion, with the characters just explicitly thinking “I’ve never been so attracted to someone before”. That gives me fanfiction vibes, and not even good fanfiction. Sometimes the writing is so explicit (lacking any metaphors) that it reads like Mark Zuckerberg wrote erotica, alternating between a full-hearted attempt to create human conversation and a lackluster use of Thesaurus dot com.Minor note, but you’ll have a decent sex scene (decent is maybe too strong a word, I’ve actually read better on AO3) and if you get into it you’ll be roughly shaken out by something like this:“Ah,” I moaned...You can just say “I moaned”— we don’t need the onomatopoeia. It makes me think they’re doing these sharp noises mid-climax and it really throws me off.I think this would have improved greatly from having some sort of side plot other than their relationship. Because their relationship ain’t it. These MFers are toxic at best and boring at worst. I skimmed through some of the scenes because the conversations were so circular, and I didn’t really like any of the characters. Cara is probably a realistically portrayed 23 year old— I think my personality was pretty one-dimensional back then too. No excuse for William, who’s a nepotism hire at his daddy’s law firm and reads like he got into Cambridge on legacy and a substantial donation.I read the whole thing though, which puts her at a higher ranking than Sierra Simone. If you have low standards and minimal dating experience, you might like this book. I think high school me would have enjoyed it.

DNF
I understand it takes an immense amount of work to create a novel of any sort, but this was just not a comfortable book to read. I'm confused by the claims of challenging misogyny in romance novels I had assumed that the book would be a depiction of a healthy relationship rather than highlighting so many toxic traits in one. I actually thoroughly enjoyed Cara's character, she felt really normal and real. William on the other hand, as a character is just not relatable in the slightest. Switching from Cara's perspective to William's feels like switching from a normal person thinking about what to have for breakfast to Joe Goldberg from You. He's insane. It's concerning. He repeatedly promises not to mess up and then messes up almost immediately after each time in an escalation of the previous mistake. I was hoping at one point that this would be an ACOTAR style twist and that he'd be the bad guy in the end but I cannot hack sticking it out. I give it two and a half stars because Cara was a normal female lead in a romance novel which is rare enough and because the dialogue was good which is also rare. Will is obsessed and it freaked me out for the whole of the story if this is based on a real character I am genuinely so sorry to the author but that is terrifying.

Awkward
I'm seriously disappointed, this was highly recommended to me so I was excited to read it however I very nearly DNF many times but thought I'd push through to find out what the hype was about. To be fair, it Started off well and was well written, then it turns into the main male character being super manipulative and acting disgusting, boundary stomping everywhere. The author tries to play it off that they have good communication and that he's a total feminst and respects the main female character but he stills ends up acting dispicable with no consequences. If any guy spoke to me how he speaks to her I'd have cut him off and ghosted him. Just overall left a horrible taste in my mouth, especially the ending.
