There are plenty of ways our immune system makes germs unhappy. Mucus, fevers, chills, and many others are your body's way of getting rid of the bad guys. Sure, they are uncomfortable, but as long as they remain mild, they don't need to be gotten rid of. Umcka has been my family's go to cold partner for more than a decade. I'm a believer in medicine. Give me all the over-the-counter stuff you have to make me feel better. And yes, I'll go to my doctor when it gets bad and let him write me a prescription. I'll be honest, I'm skeptical about homeopathic options. However, my five-year-old is the worst medicine-taker (tried all the tricks!) so I worked my way to the homeopathic category. She tried the Umcka cold relief packets and actually liked the taste! So much that she asks to take it when she starts to not feel well. It seems to help her, so major win in this household. Of course I was out of Umcka when she woke up with a runny nose earlier this week. Unfortunately our Target doesn't have Umcka on the shelves, so I needed to order through Amazon same-day, which meant hitting the $35. I took a gamble and decided to give the ColdCare a shot because my throat was starting to feel a little scratchy too. It comes in a little powder packet, and you mix it with water. I wouldn't drink it for fun, but it does taste good enough that I don't dread it. I'd compare it to slightly sweetened lemon tea. I've taken it morning and night for four days. The directions say three to four times a day, but that seems like a lot. So, I'm heading into day five, and I haven't developed a full-fledged cold. Good news for a working mom who doesn't have downtime! My throat still feels scratchy, but otherwise my symptoms haven't worsened. I'll continue to use it until the sickness leaves the house, and I'll try again next time symptoms appear. tl;dr I was skeptical about trying a homeopathic solution. I decided to give it a shot when I started feeling sick, and I've surprisingly not developed a more serious cold. I'll use it again. It's worth the shot!

I swear by these Umcka products for colds and bronchitis. I have always purchased the cherry flavored syrup that they sell to minimize the symptoms and duration of a cold. It works quite well in my experience. So, I decided to try their hot drink. This drink has the same main ingredient as the other Umcka products which is called Pelargonium sidoides, a medicinal plant from South Africa. But, this has a different delivery compared to the syrup. I liked this actually because when you are sick with a cold and cough, the warm drink soothes the throat, larynx, and bronchial tubes. To me it is a very comforting drink, with a lemony flavor from real lemon. It has xylitol to sweeten so it's not loaded with sugar to make it overly sweet. I found it helped shorten the duration of a cold I just recently had. It made things bearable and I could still get things done whereas everyone else that had the cold stayed in bed. I will buy this product again and get the rest of my family to drink it, also, if needed in the future.
