foldable utility knife

This product feels very well made and comes SHARP. I can literally shave with it. This is coming from a woodworking tool snob... I've been playing around with it all day - that's how nice it feels in the hand. Best $20 I've spent in a long time. I purchased it for cutting and grafting cacti, and it slices like butter. Great product and I would highly recommend it.

Great knives, lightweight, works great, good fit in the hand, great value

First of all, this knife is quite a bit larger than I was expecting when folded. That's not a bad thing. I just was a bit surprised when I saw it and realized that. That said, larger means a bigger handle to hold and a longer blade with which to cut. So no points off. Just something to note. Also to note, I got this for travel. If you prefer to stay in lodging where you do your own cooking (as I do), you know decent cutlery is non-existent and I have always packed a small travel set to solve this problem. I recently was considering thinning down my carry set, thus my interest in this. The good: - I sharpen my knives. I have pity for those who cannot, so I don't take a lot of stock in "it came dull" or "it came sharp." My questions are always, "Can I get it sharp and will it hold an edge?" This one came very sharp. So if that matters, you'll be happy. It also holds an edge decently. It's softer 440 steel (the A variety), but it's a tough steel that has been time tested. The only real disadvantage of it is that you have to sharpen it, but when you do, it will take an edge. This knife's steel, sharpness and blade retention satisfy me quite a bit at this price point. I am, in fact, impressed. - The knife is very appealing visually. The olive wood is gorgeous and it has a very classic look. Please don't put it in the dishwasher! The steel will be fine, but you'll ruin the wood. But the fact is that while I am lazy and put SOME stainless knives in my dishwasher, I hand wash my better ones. This one will be hand washed. - It has heft. It's not a little lightweight thing that has no meat on its bones. The blade and handle are substantial. More on that later. - Deployment and lockup are awesome. It is very, very smooth to open and the liner lock holds the blade in place. - Comes with a nice bag to protect it and a polishing cloth... I have no use for the cloth, but it would clean my glasses nicely. The bad: - On my first deployment of the blade, the liner lock slipped past the blade and wedged to the other edge of the handle. It's hard to explain, but generally the clip lock rests on the bottom of the blade below the swivel. This one shot past there and locked up on the other side of the blade where the bottom of the blade and the edge of the handle had it trapped. It held it firmly in place and the blade was locked up, but I couldn't deploy the liner lock to UNLOCK the blade. I had to use a pair of pliers to squeeze the lock down. I should have protected the handle when I did that, but I didn't put anything soft in there and ever-so-slightly marred the wood. It's only noticeable if you know to look for it. That said, the trick with pliers worked and the blade lock up has been flawless since. - The handle does not have great ergonomics. Let's accept this for what it is, and acknowledge this is a travel kitchen knife, not a daily driver. For an AirB&B, vacation rental, cabin or camping, it's awesome. I find the handle is slightly "edgy" with the edges of the wood slabs not being particularly smoothed out and while the heft is great, the balance is so-so. Also note that the handle is not particularly "rounded." The slabs sit pretty flat against the frame. So I was not entirely positive, but let me recap a bit: Razor sharp. Portable. Hefty. Beautiful. Cheap. This one's definitely a keeper. I am glad I purchased it and despite the opening mishap, I plan to get another in a different shape to keep in my "cabin travel" box with the assortment of goodies I always take (a thin cutting board, a kitchen scrubber, a few kitchen rags, a thin cast iron skillet/Dutch Oven combo just to name a few). I also plan on leaving my beefier knife roll (with kitchen knives in protective sheaths) at home on all but the longest trips now. I believe a pair of this style of knives (a nikiri and a santoku) will serve most travelers well for basic kitchen functions.

This seems a well made knife. It was larger than I pictured. If you are in the USA be sure to check with your local laws on blade length restrictions for folding knives for carrying before you put it in your pocket (my current state has no restriction but it is good to check). The wood is lovely and fells light in the hand. It is sharpen well across the full blade. I could not find it in the description, but it is single bevel, which is completely expected for a Japanese knife, but makes it best suited for a right handed person for any lefties looking. I have had practice in sharpening blades such as this to work better for my left hand so I will be getting my stones out. My only trouble was I think this will be my last use of next day shipping for something I actually need next day as it now seems 50/50 if it will come or be delayed. This was delayed so we didn't have it for a camping trip so I had to figure something else out. Still, It's a solid blade so I will keep it for the future.

I love knives, and I love to cook. I wanted some excellent kitchen knives to travel with so I can cook with my preferred set. I looked through so many and chose these after sitting in my cart for some time. I LOVE these knives. They are a good zie, I have very small hands and these are easy for me to use, but husband's has are much larger and he found them comfortable to use for chopping. These knives have a heavy wood handle, gives excellent grip, and extremely sharp. I mean really sharp. even whipping the blade to clean off the chopped garlic with my finger I slightly cut myself. They do clean easily and I leave them open to dry before closing the blade. Just be really careful with them, they are ninja sharp .

Bought this to cut fruit at my bar. Seriously, even the snottiest of craft cocktailers are terrible with knives. Like they've never worked in a restaurant and not heard chefs scream about knife care. I've tried bring in good knives and insist they be sheathed when not in use and only used on wood or plastic boards. They will use them on metal in a pinch. They will store them, blade down, in a metal shaker with other metal tools. While they saw through citrus with a brand new cheap, short, lightweight paring knife I'm getting the job done faster and with far less effort. It's not the greatest knife ever, for sure. It's not forged, the bolster isn't, well, there, so not great for a pinch grip. But using it only for bar fruit and keeping it away from the abuses of others I think it will last me a good, long time. And the foldable.... It just makes it so much easier. It fits in a small pocket in my bag. It can stay there and I don't have to take it out to make room for real life when I'm not at work so I don't have to worry about forgetting it.

This knife has a blade lock to keep if from closing while in use, opens very easy, the blade is a nice thickness (doesn’t bend), will cut meat and vegetables easy, has a good balance and is light-medium weight. Purchased to use while camping and has been a great addition, and good quality. Would highly recommend.

I didn't like the handle, it is bulky and has squared edges.

Brilliant. Well made and excellent price. As a chef by trade I can tell you these knives are legitimate and well built. Brilliant. Probably the best item from Amazon so far. Included a pouch for each knife and a carry bag as well as a little portable chopping board.
