"New Item" with no box or wrapping. ??Knock-Off??
I was somewhat confused when I opened the bubble envelope and found the X1000 reel with no box or wrapping or instructions. I immediately checked my Amazon Account order to determine if I had mistakenly purchased from Amazon Warehouse or bought a used item. NOPE. Listing claims to be a new item. Upon closer inspection, I did not find any signs of use or blemishes so its in new condition. I dont know what to make of this...is it a knock-off...or is the Shimano Store selling Reels from a bulk container?. For <$20 bucks, I am not going to complain. Seems to be good quality, but I do like the instructions so that I have an Exploded Parts View for cleaning and repairs. Happy Fishing !!

Excellent for small fish and beginner I love
excellent for small fish and beginner I love, if you are going to use it in salt water, clean well, they are very delicate in the lever, take out and clean put marine formula a little fat and will last a long time, good reel for small lures and good fight with the fish, put with line of6 pounds

Excellent reel even when not considering the price.
For those curios: I have two of the 2000's and this 1000. The 2000 and 1000 are the exact same reel with different spools installed. These are great moving water reels. By that I mean creeks/streams and rivers. The 4:1 gear ratio is excellent for spoon and spinner retrieval in moving water. I find it a little slow for ponds and lakes, but it just requires a little more speed on my part to get the proper action from lures in still waters. As they are at 4:1, so long as you choose the proper weight of lure for your water, it's very comfortable to get spinners like panther martins running as intended or to get the right action on a spoon like a krocodile etc.The drag control being on the bottom of these reels adds to the length/size of them, but it's also conducive to good balance. I suppose some of it depends on the rod you choose, but I have this 1000 paired with a 4 piece 5' ugly stick and the balance point is exactly behind the trigger ahead of the mount. When I had a much more expensive front drag control reel on the 4 piece, the balance point was at least an inch and a half further forward. I have one of the 2000s on a medium/light 7' ugly stick and the balance point is exactly behind the trigger ahead of the mount. ... It may not matter to everyone where the balance point is, but when I was a kid, I was taught it matters for long and/or accurate casting. My decades of experience tell me it seems to be true that the balance point relationship to the position of your hand while casting makes a big difference. My oldest lx2000 is a two-tone grey/black and has to be getting close to 25 or more years old. It has been in service the whole time. I couldn't even guess how many thousands of casts or hundreds of fish it has reeled in. So, durability and reliability are worth mention. Just because these reels are inexpensive doesn't mean they are cheap. They hold up well.

My All Time Favorite !
I found my first Shimano IX2000 reel in the garbage attached to a broken rod. Took it home and cleaned it and it worked perfect. I've been fishing with it many times and it continues to be flawless in function, and easy to maintain. When I wanted another one I looked to Amazon and couldn't believe the price. My new reel is identical to the garbage find. It functions flawlessly. The rear drag and trigger design of this reel really set it apart. It doesn't have instant anti-reverse but rather reverses until the trigger is in the right position. Sometimes you might have to back up a half turn to get it in the right position to cast. I've heard others say this is a problem when you set the hook. I haven't had a problem at all setting hooks and you'll get used to the trigger after a few casts. Having the drag in the rear is ideal when adjusting during a battle. This reel is light, inexpensive, strong and easy to maintain. Rinse it after use, oil it up when you have nothing better to do, and this reel should last a long time. I've got mine on a 7' Berkely Lightening rod and my older on on a 6 1/2' Lightening rod. The balance on these rigs is amazing. I've had many rods and reels in my 50 years of fishing, but these rigs are my favorite all time.

I too own a ton of these little babies (over a dozen), and I fish alot.
I have never had one fail me. They may not be ultra smooth and when the drag has not been moved in a few months it takes a slight "set" so I just move it (test it) to free that up. That needs to be done anyway (check the drag setting) before going out for larger fish who might be pulling out some drag. But these reels are light weight, they bring the line up to my finger every time and then I can either use the quick fire lever or just open the bale manually - my choice. I have more expensive reels and they just aren't worth the money to me. I'd rather have a dozen of these than have one $150. heavier reel. One tip, I try to stop cranking so the handle is in the rear position. That way the weight of the crank handle tries to back crank itself which holds the bale against the back crank stop. Otherwise the crank might take the bale forward slightly which can cause slack in the system when you need to set the hook on a fish or forany other reason. It keeps things right where they should be. That is the only quirk that I can see to this "quick fire" system and that is easily compensated. Having a half dozen rods in the boat, rigged and ready allows me to quickly and easily try another presentation and also put one down after a hangup and breakoff then retie later, at home, rather than waist that time when I should be fish'n.

I bought one, I bought two, heck I might buy three.
Bought to replace a 30yr old shimano for general coarse fishing, quivertipping. I honestly can't see how you can buy a better reel for the money....so I bought another. It feels solid, it holds a reasonable amount of line 150+m of 5lb line, another used for sea fishing off a pier which took 110m of 20lb line. The drag is very good, personally I prefer a rear drag and this one gives you control, you can play it with line allowed out or shut it down to practically give no quarter.I'm tempted to get another.....just so I can before they're gone.If you want a light reel, this isn't it, it's got a little heft to it, I don't mind that one bit because I know it's going to last. Utterly recommended.
