Better than expected.
After reading other reviews, I didn't want to "waste" my money on such an expensive accessory, but my daughter really, really wanted it after seeing it pictured with the costume. She saw it in September, I ordered it in December for Christmas, because she continued to talk about it. When it arrived we checked all the zippers (since others mentioned problems). They open and close smoothly. The whole bag has a nice thick padding to help it keep its rectangle/box shape. Patches are very nice, and are actually embrodered on the fabric itself. The fabric is smooth and medium thickness, without blemishes. Bag is large enough to hold her costume and helmet. She stores the accessories in the bag when she is not wearing it. Pockets on both sides hold more toys, big enough for an adult size hand to get things in and out. The back of the bag (not pictured) has a nice size black handle (luggage) that I use to pick it up and carry it from room to room. The shoulder straps and hip straps are white (padded like the backpack) with black accent straps for adjustment. Also has "D" rings to allow you to "clip" on other items. Other things not pictured, but have been added and make it look better are the following: large NASA logo has been screen printed to the top section of the bag. On the front pocket where the helmet is stored, near the bottom, it has another embroidered area that says, "Commander" and has the NASA logo with wings. We have been very happy with our purchase. The quality is much better than expected. My daughter loves it (she is 6.5 years old) and is not overly rough with her toys, so I anticipate this very large backpack will last for years.

Great quality and soooo cute!!
What a great backpack for a 9 year old boy! We saw this backpack originally in the Houston TX space center for about 2x the price. We looked on Amazon and convinced our son to wait and we would purchase it on Amazon. We did and he loves it! He uses it everyday for school. The backpack had two openings. One on top that has a lining so there are actually 2 compartments to the backpack. The second opening is under the NASA sign on the front bottom. Sometimes it is a little difficult to put large binders in the bottom compartment but my son usually gets everything in the pack he needs too. There is plenty of room in the pack for books, lunch, binder and anything else you have - jacket. I have not washed it yet but it may need that soon. The quality is great!!

A great NASA backpack for the price!
This NASA backpack was super cool! I am an adult male (medium frame and almost 6' tall) and used it for my costume. It would absolutely be huge on, say, an 8-year-old-boy or girl, but it would still likely work for them as well. In order for it to retain a rectangle shape, just as shown in the pictures, you really need to place like-size cardboard boxes in it (I used the official priority mail ones from the USPS, which are free), one larger one in the bottom, and one small one in the top, or however you figure it out, maybe two medium sized boxes, etc.). Best to spend some time on that to fit them before the last few minutes that you need the pack as part of your costume though. The NASA patch and American flag on the back are real patches, but the large NASA logo on the top is just printed on there, although still high quality. It states that it's a "Jr. Astronaut Backpack", but it will actually fare far better for grown teens or adults using it with their costumes, but the little kiddos will still love it all the same, too! I'm not so sure that using it as a daily backpack, as others have stated is a good idea, as the overall quality isn't that good, and the product was obviously not made for that purpose either, but to each their own.

My son loves it!
My 7yo is into astronauts, and wanted the backpack to go with his suit. This is roomy and has space for his helmet! The quality is great, way above what I expected for a costume accessory.

Awesome addition to any childs astronaut costume!
I debated spending the extra money on a backpack that my daughter would only use a couple of times, but I'm so glad I did! This pack really completed her costume and made a big hit everywhere she went. She ended up winning 2 costume contests, which was a huge deal for a 6 year old and mom). The quality of the pack was much better than I expected. I used a standard size bed pillow to fill it out without making it heavy. I did have to steam the wrinkles out since it was shipped folded flat, but no big deal. And while we were trick-or-treating, we used the pack to carry extra candy that made her pail too heavy. One note, the pack does have a divider toward the top so there are two compartments. The bottom section is larger and where I put the pillow. The divider is not attached on all four sides so small items, like candy will fall to the bottom of the pack. We didn't mind and still loved it!

Its a toy
Good bag pack for kids. Not for daily use or weight it will rip. It is a big bag but straps are for kid size not adult even if extended all the way to full size. Top zipper does not lead to inside of bag. It's a small compartment for like a lap top. The lower front zipper leads to inside of bag which makes it impossible to use as a school bag pack. It's the helmet compartment hence a toy.

Very cool looking and sturdy
I ordered this and other astro-gear for my son way back in February because he knew he wanted to be an astronaut for Halloween but also wanted to get some use out of it before then. As it happens, he had a chance to meet a real NASA astronaut (Erik Boa) and dressed up in his costume for the meet and greet. Even got his picture in the paper for that one. Anyway, the costume, including the gloves, boots and backpack are sturdy enough to hold up to the adventures of a 9 year old boy. We've washed them a couple of times and didn't notice any appreciable fading. After Halloween there were some visible scuff marks on the black "leather" parts of the boots and gloves. The backpack was terrific for holding his candy and the straps held even with the pack more than half full. The helmet serves. It's nothing fancy. The movable visor was a hit but everything else is just a decal. It goes well enough with the costume and has survived countless drops and bounces intact so far. Definitely feel like I got my money's worth out of the gear.
