FS850 Small Body Solid Top Acoustic Guitar, Mahogany

I know it’s made in China and has laminated back and sides, but if you haven’t tried a Yamaha, you should, the sound and quality of these put many of the more sought after name guitars to shame, and think about it, in most cases you lose the cost of this guitar when you walk out of the store with most of the bigger name guitars. The sound that comes out of this thing amazes me, especially considering the price!

Absolutely blown away by how well this guitar looks and plays. Great action level right out of the box. Perfect size, comfortable to play. Gear for beginners and seasoned players. At this price point, can’t be beat.

I've had Yamaha acoustic guitar for over 25 years and sounds better every day.. This guitar is just beautiful and sounds awesome..

good guitar

Guitar 1. Amazon 0. Second bad experience with musical instrument packaging from Amazon. The Yamaha FS850 is a beautiful looking, playing and sounding guitar, so the reviews online were right, and I’m glad I have one. Yamaha seems like an underrated guitar brand. It’s fit and finish is surprisingly great for a cheap guitar. It played virtually setup out of the totally shredded box. This guitar is quiet but has a focused resonance that records very well. It has a folky woody sound that’s not overly bright. Love that. Amazon and Yamaha bad packaging: WARNING!!!!! It’s not the guitar’s fault- but this is for Amazon- the box the guitar came in looked like it was run over by a folk lift. Or ripped by a Tyrannosaurus rex. It was torn and retaped in several places. I don’t know if it was returned or the box alone was damaged. It did not happen in transit as the outer box had no damage…. So Amazon packed it this way. And…No fragile markings. No paper or foam. Ridiculous. Amazon- do better. Wtf? Amazon seems to not care about musical instruments. I purchased here as I had Amazon gift cards. Also- Yamaha… wtf? This is the box you used to pack the guitar? No reinforcement or foam? Do better Yamaha. Miraculously the guitar itself doesn’t appear to be damaged, but perhaps deep micro cracks could have happened which could later shorten its life. Will evaluate during the return grace period. Hopefully not as I love this instrument. My advice is to consider carefully before buying fragile instruments from Amazon. Guitar seems very durable given this wrecked box.

Well made and good looking. Tone is midrange to base.

I was so excited to get this and play it, but I had no choice but to return it because the neck-to-the-body connection was cracked. the box looked like it was repacked so someone else must have returned this. I'm giving it three stars because it was easy to buy and return.

I am so impressed with the excellent sound this guitar produces.

This is my second guitar and I'm very happy with it. I use a 3/4 size made by a different manufacturer for learning and then move to my Yamaha to play songs once I master them. It has a nice, bold sound and is all the casual/intermediate player should need. Glad I bought it and I'd recommend it to others.
