... to the negative reviews that this product (and others like it) seem to get a lot
I'm writing this review mostly as a response to the negative reviews that this product (and others like it) seem to get a lot. Namely, that peoples' dogs break out of them. Obviously any crate that isn't made out of metal is going to be structurally weaker and should only be used for dogs that are crate trained! I think a lot of people assume that since their dog hasn't broken out of a metal crate, that's enough to indicate that they're "trained"...which just isn't so. You should make sure your dog is fully crate trained (by checking in on them with Skype or something when you're not home) AND make sure your dog is accustomed to this particular crate before leaving them alone in it. This crate (and others like it) IS NOT for puppies, dogs with separation anxiety or dogs that aren't calm inside a crate. You'd think this would be common sense, but apparently not! And can make searching for a stylish, furniture-like crate hard because they get a lot of negative reviews for owners' error. That being said, the small size of this crate has been working out great for my papillon. He's a tiny dude (5ish pounds) and he has a ton of room to stretch out/stand up. It does feel kinda cheaply made, but I got it for a good price and it looks really good. I don't expect it to get much wear and tear so hopefully it holds up over time. I didn't feel the need to reinforce it at all but that's an option if you're nervous about it. It was also pretty easy to assemble, took about 10 minutes with one person (and a little help from a second person).

Great Dog Kennels and Works as Side Tables! We bought two!
We LOVE these kennels! We have two Pomskies (17 and 26 lbs.) who are known escape artists and heavy duty chewers, but they have never escaped (nor chewed) these kennels and we've been using them for about a year now. Another big plus is that no one even notices these kennels because they fit perfectly with our decor next to our couch and recliner and act as great side tables! Once someone does finally notice that they are kennels, the comments are always positive, such as: "That's brilliant!" or "I have to get one of those for my dog!" When we are at home, we leave the doors open (they can swing both outwards or inwards) and the dogs will often voluntarily go in their little "dens" to chew their bones, play with a toy, or take a nap! They feel safe and secure inside. We learned that you can NEVER leave a Pomsky unattended in your home for even a short time! So, when we have to leave them "home alone," they willingly go inside their kennels until we return. The longest we have ever left them in their kennels was probably 6 to 7 hours, but we know that when we come home, they are both safe and sound in their kennels and our house still looks the same as when we left it! The only reason I gave it 3 stars for the "traveling" option is because, depending on what size kennel you purchase, these can be quite bulky and may need to be disassembled for traveling if you have a small trunk or backseat. But, if you have a truck or larger SUV, I could see one (or two) of these going in the back without the need to disassemble them. I cannot speak highly enough about these kennels . . . they're tough enough for our two Pomskies, they serve as a "safe haven" for our dogs, look good in our living room, and serve as great side tables, too! These are so much better than the metal crates we used to use. I'm so grateful for these because they give us the peace of mind we need knowing that our two dogs are safe (and so is the rest of our home) when we're gone!

Disappointed
Check your item on arrival! Came with a huge crack in it. Also FYI this is made out of plastic. Picture is deceiving. It seems like the top is made of wood in the picture like an actual table would be, but it’s not. The whole thing is plastic. There is also no tray in the bottom as the normal wire crates usually come with. I wanted to like it, but both my dogs do not care for it so far- they prefer the standard wire crate. Probably will be a return.

My dog LOVES this cage!
Honestly, I bought this with not high hopes but I’ve had it for 3 years and might I say, I am pleasantly surprised. My dog LOVES this cage! I know that is probably weird but he does. He prefers to lay in it instead of his dog bed. Weird, I know. It is also very nice looking and blends in well with furniture even though it’s plastic. I probably wouldn’t recommend for high energy dogs or ones you are trying to crate drain because it honestly isn’t made of much and if they have enough force to break through it’s over. But, for a dog who is crate trained it would be perfect. It was easy to assemble and taking it apart and putting back together is EASY. I really like the ability to take it apart because it makes it really easy to do a deep clean. Would really recommend this.

overall good choice
We have now purchased 4 of these. One came a bit damaged but we decided it wasn’t a big deal and kept it. Two of them the latch that closes the dogs door fall off on a some what regular basis. With that being said we love these creates- the look, are dogs are comfortable, easy to put together, light weight, ease to move.

Nice and multifunctional
I bought the espresso medium, and tho it is for my JRT for night time, it is big enough for my 35 lb BC too. It fits next to the bed and doubles for my night table. It is easy to put together, looks nice, and is very sturdy. The reason I gave 4 stars for sturdiness, is if you pick it up and move it around it could wear the plastic peg/screws and loosen it up. I won’t be moving mine, but you might want to keep it in mind. In my mind there is no chew proof crate, unless it’s a stainless crate. A very determined and untrained to crate type dog could damage it. I ran a rescue for 20 years and I’ve marveled at what a determined or panicked dog can do. Mine are crate trained and this crate will be very comfortable for my jack at night. There is no liquid gutter, like many regular crates have for dogs that may have accidents. The bottom of this is flat, and is really a nice spot for my girl. The dark color makes it very much like a den up spot. And my goodness the ship of this to me was lightening fast.

Good for old dogs and the super chill.
Bought the medium in espresso for two beagle. The pluses: - Pretty, really pretty - Heavy so it’ll stay in place - Easy to assemble once the order of assembly was determined - Dogs love it! The minuses: - Would not hold any dog determined to get out. The bars and latch are pretty loose.* - The directions would have been easier to follow if the images on the assemble sheet matched the pieces inside, had labels on the images such as side/back/roof/floor, or had the directions written in words, not just drawings. That said, once I figured out what order the floor, back wall and roof were meant to be assembled, it took ten minutes tops. - There are barcode stickers on two of the pieces which wouldn’t be a big deal if they were on the inside or were easily removable. But instead they’re on the outside pieces and are stuck fast. I haven’t a clue how I’m going to get these off without damage to the wood stain. Neutral: It’s much much bigger than I expected. I’m not sure how well this would actually work as an endtable unless one has really large furniture in a big room. I bought the medium for my two beagles and they like to rest in it when I’m in my studio working. In other words, being classified as an “endtable” was not a selling point for us, but it may be for you. *My intention for the crate is as an indoor doghouse rather than as a crate for my dogs so, the latch and bars being wiggly isn’t an issue for us.

So far so good
Update 2025: everything worked out great. Dog loved it. Went in it when I would send her to bed a night and even in the day time we left the door open and she would go in whenever she didn’t want to be bothered. It’s just not toddler proof sadly. My son started loosing screws. A few on the top and on the door. So at some points we just decided to get rid of it since it became too unstable and dog could easily push the door open with a few nudges. Originally sometime in 2021: Easyish to build. I normally wait for my husband to assemble things for me but I gave it a try. The delivery was awesome. I live on the second floor so I was already expecting to find it on the bottom of the stairs and very much banged up, since I saw that it said it weighed 65lbs. But I found it right infront of my door box still intact to damages to it, which was a really great and nice surprise. Everything was nicely packed and protected. A very snug fit inside the box with multiple layers of protection in between. The only little defects I found were a few scratches on the panel that goes on the bottom so no biggy for me since no one is going to see it(and I won’t either). It was nice when I released I wouldn’t be needing any tools to put it together. It comes with some plastic screws, which did through me off. And didn’t seem too sturdy as I was putting it together which made me worry a bit at first. And to bottom panel didn’t seam to be the right fit ( but no issue so far with that). The top is about the only thing I really struggled with. I read a few reviews about bad alignment. But i just had to really make sure both stick things in the middle were in the right place at the same time before I tried to put the screw things on and before I worried about alignment issues. Eventually it all came together. Once you get the top on it really gets more sturdier. Only took me about an hour or so.. 1.5at most. Her bed is 3ft by 2ft. If you see in the pics it doesn’t quite fit with wise but we just shoved it in there so it works for now . Took a while for my dog to get use to it but after a few hours it seams like she can stay in and nap.. we literally just got it this morning so I have to wait and see how she really likes it (if she can stay the night) and how well it’ll work for her as she grows but I’m hoping this is our last and final crate/ bed for her. Long story short it was an easy build with a small struggle at the end. I love how the finished product looks. Price was great compared to other places I was looking at. I thought I might of over did the size (xl)but I know my husky will grow into it since it doesn’t seam to huge on the inside. Just have to find the perfect spot for it in my apartment. Will update review with Metztli’s final thoughts (my husky).
